Condition of printed and digital media

21st century is the time of digital media. Printed media, so popular in the 20th century, become less and less popular. Whereas everyone tends to point out the drawbacks of such state, let's think of positive aspects of digitalisation.
Since the invention of the first digital computers, everything has changed. Not only in the world of media but you can notice the changes in every aspect of life. But here I would like to draw your attention to the media. Personal computers and smartphones make it possible to access, modify, store and share digital media by everyone. What is more, electronic devices, digital cameras to mobile phones have the ability to create, transmit and view digital media. Combined with he Internet, digital media has transformed 21st century society dramatically. When you take a look at the past, you will find some analogy. Printing press was the same influential – the cultural, economic and social impact of it was as groundbreaking as digital media.

Digital media allowes people to create new content. If you only have the Internet access, you can participate in social media and upload your own writing, art, videos, photography and commentary. Many media production tools, that were available only for the professionalists in the past, are now accessible for everyone. In addittion, they are free and not complicated while using. Many governments, especially in conservative states, restrict access to digital media to prevent obscenity as a part of political censorship. But the truth is that digital media is a highly effective tool in citizens' hands: they can play journalists' role and for example record some video when they see something interesting, and then send it to the magazine or tv. After that, professional journalists make a content from that information. That's called citizen journalism.
The most interesting thing happens with the journalism. Digital media and citizen journalism have led to the loss of thousands of jobs in print media and the bankruptcy of many major newspapers. On the other hand, the rise of digital journalism has created thousands of new jobs for media workers. That simplified the job of journalists. A lot of media experts claim that people working in the Internet press can't be called journalist but media workers, thus they job isn't so demanding.

The same situation is being clarified in the book industry. E-books and self-publishing are changing the world of books – digital textbooks are changing the programme of education and the attitude of students. That led to a new form of scholarship, called digital scholarship, and new fields of study, such as digital humanities and digital history. Even the libraries are being modernized. You don't get traditional library card but special ID card, of course with the electronic chip.
The other point is that the press is still a unique way of communication. Information given by the traditional press is considered the most reliable. Traditional media still most often look for confirmation. The press is still as good a medium in creating a relationship with readers. First, it is consumed as a one-to-one relationship: one magazine-one reader. People can choose from a very wide range of titles available on the market that fully meet their needs. Secondly, the press is not a passive medium – it requires attention and put an effort into finding information. When advertising in the press, mainly in magazines, newspapers harmonizes with nature. That leads to interaction with the rest of the contents of the magazine. Advertising is then better perceived and remembered, and this is after all the primary aim of advertisers.

In media experts opinion, only the press has managed to create a valuable media brand. Internet can only dream of it. Well-known sites such as MySpace and Second Life began to issue their own magazines printed. Internet media are being designed for printed versions, or even e-editions. The dream of every journalist is to see their text in the paper. Services want to get out of the chaos of the Internet, they know they can build prestige due to the printing process.

Summing up, press is still very prestiguous, but the digital media seem to be the dominant in the future.

Questions:
1. What do you found more interesting: printed or digital media? Why?
2. Do you think people will stop using traditional press in the future?
3. What are the biggest advantages and disadantages of digitalisation?
4. What are the reasons why people tend to read online magazines instead of buying traditional?

  1. It's hard to conclude what it's more intresting. Digital media are more usefull than tradtional. You don't need to buy 5 newspapers becouse you can check on your tablet. I have personal problem with it because I love books like an object witch is possible to collect.
I don't know what will change in futere. Maybe people will stop using traditional press, but not me. It's really nice feeling when you seat with cup of coffe and fresh newspaper.
The biggest advantage of digitalisation is that it easiest to find important informations. But biggest disadantage of digitalisation is that there is to much informations so it's hard to conclude which one is important and which one not

  2. I find digital media more interesting, because it's free and it offers more topics. It's ecological to . I think people will almost stop using traditional press in the future. They'll protect forests and use e-versions. Adantages of digitalisation...it's comfortable, eco, not payable, the content is easier to edit, convert, publish and share. Disadvantages? If your device is broken, you are helpless.
People tend to read online magazines instead of buying traditional, because they don't have to pay for it and they can find all topics, which they want. They can deepen their knowledge about what they're reading by searching info in the same time. Online magazines can't be crumpled too.

  3. I prefer it printed, because I like to read paper books or newspapers. I have problem with my eyes so for me reading a lot via the computer or in my smartphone is hard.
In my opinion it is possible. More and more people using digital media and it is more cheaper. This is the adventage , more can be thoutgh that it is ecological. Disadventage: more vision defects, less contact with people face to face.
Just I said, online magazines are free in most cases and people do not need to leave home to know what is going on in the country or world.

  4. I prefer printed media too.One thing is certain about glossy magazines and periodicals: They’re yours forever. Hoard them, share them, lend them, or borrow them. They’re subject only to the time limits you set.
We still buy on impulse in the real world. Whether at the supermarket, on the street, or while shopping, grabbing a print magazine is a simple, low-commitment purchase when you’re out and about.
To the other hand, digital media is chosen over print based media because the perception is that it is financially more viable. The ability to segment the market and to zero-in on your market is in my option the biggest advantage digital media has to offer. Once your marketing message is in digital form it is flexible enough to be displayed on various digital mediums, like TV, internet, mobile etc. The cost of reproducing your digital message costs noting, so the dissemination of information is a big plus.

  5. I prefer printed media. I don't like reading on the internet. My eyes weary very quickly. Unfortunately, nowadyas students have to use digital media and me too. Yes, people use digital media more and more. The biggest adventages digital media: In this kind of media you can read information very quickly, enough that you enter the website. On the other hand this informations, which are easy available, they are false very often. People are cheated.Apart from that I think people want to read gossip and they are lazing also. But In my opinion traditional media will survive. I can't image that in future I wouldn't buy normal paper in newsstand. I think that people, which think in the same manner, are more.

  6. In my opinion printed media are better than digital media. When I learn I prefer read it in book. I have to feel paper in my hand. It is really important. But when I read really interesting book I can read it in the Internet. Then it doesn't matter.
Well, maybe for 50 years people will be using only digital media and will stop using traditional media. We should remember that now people use rarely traditional media so in the future it won't be popular.
In my opinion digitalisation has no adventages. For me it has bad influence for people's health. I mean reading something on the screen is really bad for eyes. Of course reading magazines online is cheaper or free. So people prefer reading online. Maybe they believe that they protect trees:)

  7. I am not sure which type of media I like better - both have their advantages and disadvantages. You could say that printed media is more prestigious and reliable but then most "newspaper companies" are involved in politics somehow. So in the end you have to check different sources for more acurate information anyway. While searching the internet for info you can find much more and often easier but that also means you have to be able to pick the right information and should also know where to look. That is because everyone can put anything in the internet while in the written media only "authorised" people have their articles.
Digitalised media is free and easy to access plus there is a huge range of information. This makes it more popular today. I think that printed media is going to last for at least two reasons- thematic magazines which you can collect being the first one and tradition being the second (for at least next twenty years)

  8. It is not easy to say which, digital or printed media, are more interesting. It seems to me that pronted media usually give us more bona fide information but on the other hand digital media present it in more interesting and easy way. What is more digital media use to be cheaper.
I have a sister, she is 7 years old and she love writing dictations on a computer and at the same time hate ding it in traditional way. I think that it is common phenomenon. For the youngest digital world is something natural, it is very probably that as adults they would prefer e-book and e-magazine instead of traditional press.
In my opinion the biggest advantages of digitalization is wider and cheaper access to information and entertainment for mass of people. What is more, nowadays space in not an obsolete. It is not important where events are organized in one second you will know about it and have possibility to become a participant of them. On the other hand, digital media show may be addicted.
Online magazines are usually cheaper, you can have all of them in one place on your e-book reader or mobile phone instead of thousand piece of paper in your bag.

  9. In my opinion digital media are becoming more popular. We have digital gadgets and we have easier access to articles from newspapers, and we don't need to buy a newspaper. but there are still some people who enjoy reading articles in traditional newspapers, because w.g of the smell. I like reading newspapers, but easier to me is reading what I like on internet. I think that in futeure it will change because we are addicted to our smartphones, computers. the main disadvantage is that social conctats are getting limited. and the main advantage is that everytime and everywhere you can read what you want.

  10. Digital media seem to be more interesting but people don't use them properly, because we are being inundated with large amounts of information so everything is mixed and quantity of this media is worse that traditional media where the concrete information are selected due to keep the high level of quantity.
    2. Do you think people will stop using traditional press in the future?
I'm afraid in the near future people stop using newspapers, books and classic form of radio, because today everything is avalaible on the internet, but for 5, 10 years world will be more digitalized than now. I like reading printed magazines, books but for me it have something like soul, but all in all digital media seem to be much more comfortable for people.

  11. I prefer printed media but unfortunately I use more often the digital one. As I have a tablet and a smartphone and I always have my computer with me it's more confortable to read the news, the reportages, the articles on Internet always when it suits me. That's the reason why I think that people will stop using the printed media in the future - we are lazy and we love the technology so it would be just simplier for us to use the digital media. On one hand it's of course the most confortable way to check what's is happening, the digital media can be more actual, but in my opinion the digital media can be just one more step into the direction of total digitalisation of society.

  12. I think that digital media are more interesting because we can have a texts, photo's and also videos in one place what can help us and give us whole picture about the case. I don't think that traditional press will be forgoten for ever because we like to have something printed and this is better for ours eye health. The bigest advantage is that it is faster than printed information disadvantage is that there is a lot of information and it s hard to chose this most important. The reason that people tend to read electronic newspaper is that they don't need to pay for it.

  13. I am studying journalism. This for me is a good topic. I believe the printed magazine has never disappeared. In the future, this deluxe edition for collectors. Knowledge itself more advantages in virtual media. They give more opportunities. Unfortunately, only smart people have of them away. A lot of people watching only stupid movies. It is very sad. People stop buying magazines because it's not comfortable. On the internet you do not have to pay too, although this is changing.

  14. The situation with media is quite similiar to the situation with books, so let me repeat somehow what I have said before. I believe that in the future newspapers will become a luxury product. Whereas everyone will benefit from online publications, connoisseurs will use the traditionally printed papers. It's a shame, because the press captures the amazing atmosphere of reading. The world, however, aims to digitize and it is obvious that the all the media will be digitalized some day, so that's why I collect my favourite magazines as they may cost a fortune one day. To be honest, I can't imagine living without my favourite magazines, so I hope they will be publishing for the rest of the time.

  16. Frankly speaking, I find digital media more interesting. If I want to read one article that is interesting for me I don't have to buy the whole newspaper, I can read it for free or buy only the part I want via the Internet. Normally, I don't like reading on the computer screen but articles are usaully so short that I feel no difference. However, I believe that before the era of the digitalized media we could depend more on the media itself because there were less mistakes and journalists cared more about its truthfulness and correctness.

I don't believe that digitalized media will replace traditional press. Of course they will have more and more value but as long as they are people who prefer printed media there will be also people publishing newspapers. We must admit that still there are lots of people buying traditional press, we can see that newsagents haven't gone broke yet.

As I've said in the discussion about ebooks, the biggest advantage about digitalized media is its mobility and low price. Especially newspapers which tend to be really big and unwieldy are easier to be read in the bus on the screen of ebook reader or smartphone and this is why they gain popularity so fast.

  17. For me nothing can substitiute the printed media. I grew up on paper books, paper newspapers and I can't imagine that in the future it will disappear. Of course we are expanding and there are spheres of our life that need changes, but in my opinion it's not necessary in case of pres, books and so on. There will be always someone who like to be different and this someone will traditional press in the future. People prefer online magazines because it's free, and they don't have to go out to buy it.

  18. I still prefer traditional media. I use my laptop mostly for work or school and I can't imagine reading books, magazines, listening to the radio, watching tv by one device. Of course there are exceptions, when there is a book that is not available in library and costs much money I search for it on the Internet, when I am interested in one particular article I don't buy a magazine. I am not saying that digital media is useless but it didn't push the traditional one away.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people?

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? I do not like categorize people, all stories are different. Probably everyone knows someone who is rich and nice person, and someone who is wealthy and horrible…What can determine behaviour of these people? copyright:http://theundercoverrecruiter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/money.jpg 1 .     First of all how they got their money. Some people are rich because they won the lottery and some of them because they are genius who made a discovery of new, brilliant solution. There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
