TV follows the development of culture. People want to see what surrounds them. In an increasingly individualized world TV is becoming more personalized, focused on real needs of people.

The Truman show

American comedy-drama film from1998. It shows a life of a man which makes a reality television show, which is on the air 24hours per day and everyone can not only observe it ,

but also participate in it . Truman thinks that he is a normal man, but one day he finds out he is being observed by millions of people. Something that seemed to be a weird movie becomes a reality.

Big Brother

Every reality show is associated with Big Brother.

In Netherlands in 1997, one on the most developed countries in the world, somebody had an idea to show an ordinary group of people locked together in one large house. It was picked up by Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Portugal, the US, the UK, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland and Italy the following year and became a world-wide sensation.

Paradoxically it was (and it is now) a huge success. It turned out that people do not want to watch the stars but people like them.

Big Brother has created completely unknown people. The program was designed to show the social diversity and gave TV into the hands of a common man. It is the people who decided of the fate of the contestants.

It inspired to create new programs.

Survivor

A popular reality show, where participants are in a far away land, have no possibility to contact with the rest part of the world and have rivals for many prizes.

In that program people forget they are being observed all the time, they are themselves, because no one is controls their behaviour.

It is true that in Poland there are no programs that keep an original idea, but there are plenty of programs that draw from it abundantly. For example ‘Top Model’. In the USA there is ‘The Simple Life’ with Paris Hilton, ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ or ‘Hell’ Kitchen’.

In countries like the United States or Great Britain programs like these have still unflagging popularity because they embody the myth of American dream – from rags to riches.

Each of us has his own reality show, we are all the time under observation.

  1. From my point of view, this presentation is really well done, but personally I would like to criticize a subject of this essay. I am opposed to tv shows and television at all. I don't possess TV set and I'm very content because of this fact. I think watching tv is waste of time and watching tv shows is a condemnation of person's life. People should have their own lives, work up their interests, not to peep other people to make their everyday more attractive.

  2. The presentation shows that the television is not always true and everything is just business. Are reality shows worth watching? I dont think so. It is so stupid! Personally I would forbid that kind of entertainment. However people like to watch the others.. :)

  3. I agree with Joanna, presentation is very cool, but the true is that the television is lying :)!
I do not like this type of program, I would rather movies or TV series. But unfortunately, people really like to see someones lifes instead of their own.

  4. I have never seen any of this programs. When I was about 8 or 9 all of my friends had been watching 'Big brother'. I didn't have a TVN channel, and I was really sad because of this. Now I think that I was really lucky ;)

  5. In my opinion this presentation is very good becouse it compares different reality shows. I like them, especially the ones where people make fools of themselves, because they are funny and amusing. You can see the people's life 24/7 and see how they are changing.

  6. In my opinion, this presentation is good, because it shows a different kind and diffrent possibility of reality shows. The truth is that today, reality shows are very popular. In Poland, this phenomenon may be a little bit smaller than for example in the USA but American formats are still copying by biggest Polish channels like TVN or Polsat, so they becoming more and more popular - for example, programs like “Top Model”, “Idol”, “Fabryka Gwiazd”,” the voice of Poland” , “Must be the music” and of course “Mam talent”. Such programs always will be present in television schedule, because they are profitable and people want to watch them because give a lot of joy and entertainment.

  7. This presentation addresses an important issue-the issue of privacy. Nowadays it is often violated. When it comes to reality shows, people consciously decide to lack of privacy and constant observation. In such programs are often shown quarrels, sex and other scandals. I am terrified that the world is increasingly chasing sensationalism. People prefer to watch the life of others than to deal with their own affairs. I think this is very sad.

  8. I heard about these programs, but I didn't watch them. I don't interested in this type of program. Of course I saw fragments or single episodes and I think that it's stupid. This is a waste of time. I don't understand people who decide on part in reality shows. I never would take part in reality show. Too much value my privacy and freedom. It's great that you mentioned in your presentation about the film "The Truman Show". It's very good movie which shows how important is real life, without cameras. Life about which we decide. I think that Peter Weir that way criticize reality shows and shows their destructive role in the lives of the participants and public.

  9. Well, I'm not really into watching reality shows. Actually, I'm not really into watching TV at all, because in my opinion it's really time-consuming and non-productive. When I want to watch something, more than watching TV I like going to the cinema or theater.
On the other hand, when I was younger, I sometimes watched Big Brother on TVN. I was quite fun for me then, but now, with time I see that it was another brain-eater.
If anybody thinks that reality shows are really that real... I have to say then that more life experience one could take from "M jak Miłość".

  10. In my opinion, these programs show how much people are able to do for fame and money. Often they break their own rules and resign from past life to participate in the program. I think it isn't a good idea to give up work or school just to take part in such a program.
I watch the program "Top Model" on TVN because I think that it helps promote the girls, but very often I don't like how they are treated by the jury.

  11. From this reality shows I have only seen Big Brother. Not many times because I was young when it was in TV and my mum didn't want me to watch it, saying that it is stupid waste of time. And now I agree with her. I think that reality shows are only entertainment programmes. People can watch them from time to time but in my opinion they are not worth spending much time in front of them.

  12. The reality shows can open career. Despite of money which they can win after the show they can be actors or singers. Everyone from BigBrother had a chanse to make money only because was famous. On the other hand, these type of programs can be a good object of research for psychologists or sociologists.

  13. The director of Truman Show have idea place cameras in cinema and on this film, make 1-2 seconds brakes and show video from cameras in cinema. That would be great joke but it will give people some thinks to think.

Nowadays we mustn't be in television to show our secrets. For example facebook can track us. Some pages in internet are following us and we have get personalized advertising .

  14. I love "truman show"! It is one of the best movie in history of cinema!
Film touched our ages problem. I hearad poeple who make jokes about theories included to "truman show" scenario. And who was right? The google street view? Cameras on every road intersection?
I can't understand motivation of people - why they love to see live of another? They are so boring for themself? There is nothing more to do, than laugh from someone mistakes?
People outrages becaouse of animals in zoo? Where is the difference in reality show?
Bleh, RS are just another cancer of our civilization.

  15. Ok, so now I must admit - I love spy on people! I love to watch their life, see how they behave in different situations, what decisions they take, how they smile and how they cry. I am a journalist and the people watching is encoded in my profession. But it is also a tendency for each of us. People love watching the others, that's why all the reality shows has a large audience. People who take part these shows, earn a lot of money. The only question is - how much cost the privacy and intimacy? Is it a good price?

  16. I think that this type show are only for humans who like to spend a lot of time in front of TV and watch ordinary people as they. Reality show are only for mass culture. I do not like this type of show where people shows the intimate sphere of their lives, for example bathing. I think that the television emmiting this programs lowers the level. of syllabus.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people?

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? I do not like categorize people, all stories are different. Probably everyone knows someone who is rich and nice person, and someone who is wealthy and horrible…What can determine behaviour of these people? copyright:http://theundercoverrecruiter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/money.jpg 1 .     First of all how they got their money. Some people are rich because they won the lottery and some of them because they are genius who made a discovery of new, brilliant solution. There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
