I decided to write about hipsters. Who are they and what's the connection between them and modern life?

To talk about hipster we need to find out who (or what) hipsters are. The first and most popular idea is that hipster are kind of contemporary subculture of young people who want to be alternative. They stand alone in a modern life, they hate things which are mainstream but concurrently they can't live without modern things. Hipster wears old sweater from 90's and use an IPhone. Hipster hates highlife style but he/she drinks coffee from Starbucks. Is that a hypocrisy? Maybe, but for sure not to hipsters. Let's try to find out who they really are and why some people want to be them.

Who I need to be to be hipster?

This is a subculture of young people, especially in age of 16-28. But this ambit is not definite. Wikipedia.org tells us that they're from middle class. I think that hipsters are balancing between highlife and kitsch. Their look is stylized like it is sloppy and natural, but in fact any free style includes many short details, for an example: ruffled hair, crooked nails painting.

They are interested in fashion but only at an angle of being special. They care about their style - it needs to be polish in any way - it starts on appearance goes across music preferences, books which they read, movies which they watch and words which they use. It's not easy to be hipster.
Music must be alternative - the best is Indie or ambitious pop. Movies can't be mainstream. The best are that from competitive festivals.

They always have an unsualy hobby like
analogue photography with unwonted view.

If you are hipster you should use MacBook, wear Ray bans and have a cat.

Now hipsters are the object of sociologist studies.

The scale of this appearance is huge. Everyone knows or just've heard about hipsters. They are everywhere. On the streets, in autistics bars, on university, in our homes (for ex. our brothers or sisters). They want to be in a shadow but they need to accentuate their existence. But I think that they just, like any other subculture, need to feel special.
Even it can look miserable.

  1. I observe hipsters for a long time although I am not hipster and neither are my friends. There is no day without seeing the hipster on the street, university, pub or library. In fact, I do not have any special opinion about them. They are interesting, funny and, for sure, different. They try to be someone else but whether they are for real? It is difficult to say. When I meet some at the parties they just talk about awesome music, awesome movies and awesome places and when you do not know what are they talking about they are like “what? You don’t know it?” and you do not want to talk with them anymore. With no doubt, this subculture is still growing and is open for younger and younger people. I agree with this notice that they try to be vintage and wear old clothes while they have the modern and super brand new things like iPhone, iPad, tablets etc. Like I said in the beginning, I do not know personally any hipster so it is difficult to rate them. I am an observer who waits for something to happen.

  2. hmmm, hipsters. This post explains to me some of my questions about them:). Although among my friends they do not exist, nor my friends are not like this type of people that think they have a right to behave as they wish. in the end we live in a free world. Is it not?

  3. Personally i dont like hipsters, they are wird and make me irritate. I dont like their alternative style amd i think the have got problems with identifiaction, thats why they behave like that.

  4. Very nice presentation. Photo number 1 is my favourite ;) I think that hipster's fashion is a fashion like every other: a few years ago everyone was listening a punk music and wearing bovver boots. Now, they are listening Florence and The Machine and wearing too big jumpers. And, like every fashion, it will finish next year or in two years. Maybe hipsters are hypocrites but they are funny and because of them our streets are colorfull and unusual. Btw., you didn't wrote, that they are riding on retro bicycles. The best are pink!

  5. Very nice presentation, really! Especially I like the pictures but also comments and a summary of opposites which are included in the presentation are great. Hippies culture is really interesting but now it is far from a orginal model of the past. Today, hippies despite their beliefs and follow the fashion trend. If a hippie is someone who has a specific style, drinking coffee at Starbucks cafe and use iPhone or another fashionable phone I think that almost everyone can call him as a hippie. It's sad because at this point, this subculture becomes meaningless. As for the music, ambitious pop can means almost anything. In summary, I really like Your presentation and it's interesting for me but my conclusions are sad..

  6. I don't agree with Kinga. First of all, this presentations isn't about hippies. It is about hipsters. The text doesn't read well. It is not coherent. This subculture is a joke. I think they are hypocrites because they say "we are alternative and individual" but they are doing something completely different. I wouldn't want to join this subculture.

  7. I think that hipsters are kind of weird people. They're trying to be as alternative and individual as possible. But in what way? They listen to the music that other people don't, they dress totally differently than we do. They have their own world and noone understand what they are up to and noone likest them.

  8. I don't like things built as the negation of something and hipster culture is surely like this. It's a funny fact that they want to be different but you can easily recognize them - there are so many of them that their culture became mainstream, it must hurt.

  9. I must admit to that I know some people who have this kind of style, but I didn't know that they were called ,,hipsters". They want be original, have yours unique life style but they forget about keeping their balance in the fashion very often. In my opinion they are hypocrites - they hates highlife style but drinks coffee from Starbucks, they wears clothes from 90's but use modern newest gadgets. I don't like join of style all the more when they are peripheral. Maybe I wrong, but on the basis of observations hipsters who I know this kind of subculture it occurs to me swanky.

  10. I don't like hipsers. For me they are only wealthy young people that want demonstrate themselve. I can't see any deeper understanding of this subculture. What's more, hipsters get on my nerves - they think that they are so superior and individual and the truth is completely different.

  11. This subculture is a joke. For some reason it's created by media and the Internet. Everyone is talking about this, discussing the importance of this subculture. This is ridiculous. There are so many problems, and someone concerned about spoiled kids. It is fashionable to be an alternative, whatever that means. They want to express yourself in this way - their business. Personally, I don't interfere. Earlier the subculture was a group who had ideas and wanted to change something such as punks, hippies, etc.. Today, a youth subculture is a group, who wears big glasses, old sweaters and listens to alternative music, but they don't know why. Well, what times such a subculture.

  12. Hipsters are just another subculture people with some similar interest and style of behavior and dress. I like groups who like anime or Japan culture and also who like history of word war 2 or times of Roman Empire...

  13. I have younger brother ( 17 years old ) and he sometimes came back to home and said " Oh I saw today, such a hipster that you will not believe" and I don't really know what exactly hipsters stand out. This presentation supplemented my deficiencies. In my opinion hipsters are people who want to show others that they are better. They have nice style.

  14. I think you did very good presentation. It allowed me to really understand what hipsters are. There was so much things about them that I didn't know. I think that their style is very interesting and even thought I wouldn't dress like that I really apriciate thier will to be independent what is really unusual these days.

  15. Hipsters.. Well i wouldn't be contributing much to it because me on the other hand, i am staying and happening to learn totally new culture. It's really possible some one could prove that "i am one of the hipster!"..xDD

One thing, which is irritating about Hipster's is that they cannot believe in something which is out of there thinking possibilities.. Well i do petty that because who doesn't wants to live freely in their own world and enjoy a bit of themselves in front of others..
but i guess the whole system sucks.. people should be able to define themselves and learn what they like for what reason but trust me it's really painful when someone wants to find out what he/she likes? he has no idea about things because it's really possible to find a lot of substitutes for using one thing..

  16. Your presentation is really very interesting. hippsters often heard of, I saw the photos been on blogs, but I did not see that I like modern and expensive gadgets. In large cities such as Warsaw is full of such people. I often see girls dressed in vintage clothes (I like it) who ride on colorful bikes with a basket by Krakowskie Przedmiescie. I heard that hippsters do holes for example in the shirtsw because it also reflects their subculture. I don't see in them nothing strange or exciting. They think they are unique and it really is full of such people.

  17. I really don't understand the thing about hipsters. If someone has a lot of money and like to spend them on clothes and tech innovations, why not? I also like spending money so I don't see anything unusual in it. Every people think that they are special, but some of us like to show it in their clothing and gadget.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Everyone can decide about lifestyle. If they want wear old clothes and use iPad - it is their choose. Personally, I don't like this style. I like pants without holes and shirts in my size :)

    P.S. Very nice presentation :)

  19. Your presentation is very interesting. I never thouht about hipsters, in fact I didn't realised who they are and now I know. It seems that they are really nice people. Good job! Well done.

  20. Many people are looking at people like Hipsters think of them as dissenters do not really wondering what kind they actually are. If everyone were like them that the world would be just boring. Such persons as Hipsters bring some diversity, they have something that stands out from the crowd, and very well.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hipsters not want be a mainstream but they are creating their own mainstream which derived from nothipster mainstream. I don'tunderstand it. It is beautiful that in the world are many actions but only if it is a action not only a fashion or lifestyle.

    ReplyDelete
  22. When my friends want to call someone an idiot, they always say: Oh, you're such a hipster. Today hipster is essentially someone who want to be alternative and "cool". Being a hipster is cool. Uploading million photos to Facebook a day is cool. Sharing with the world everything I do is cool. I like people who have different interests than the mainstream and who are true artists, but I truly hate posers and hipsters. Just because they are not real. They just create themselves.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people?

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? I do not like categorize people, all stories are different. Probably everyone knows someone who is rich and nice person, and someone who is wealthy and horrible…What can determine behaviour of these people? copyright:http://theundercoverrecruiter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/money.jpg 1 .     First of all how they got their money. Some people are rich because they won the lottery and some of them because they are genius who made a discovery of new, brilliant solution. There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
