Styles and methods of learning

Styles and methods of learning

We all know that learning is not a pleasant thing to do. That’s why we often look for the way which can make it easier for us to acquire knowledge. Everyone has a different method of learning. We can’t say which one is the best – every person is different and everyone prefers something else.

I would like to present you some methods of learning. Maybe you will find something for you :)

Learning by heart
Its purpose is to memorize messages or activities so that they can be repeated in an error-free way. The basis of this method is just repetition. In this method you can achieve the best results assuming an active attitude.

Learning by understanding
This method is the complete opposite of learning by heart. In this way, the most important thing is to understand the essence of the problem and to see the the links between the elements of the material. If you understand the issue, you don't need to memorize it.

Learning by solving problems
This method is about solving the problem or facing the new situation by using possessed knowledge. It is typically practical learning.

Learning by imitation
It is about imitating actions and behaviors of others. This is a main method of learning used by children. Kids often watch their parents and other adults and reproduce their actions.

When we learn, we usually use all the senses. Sometimes, however, one sense is better specialized than others, and that’s why it is easier for us to use just this one particular sense.
These are four styles of learning:

Visual learner
A we can guess, a person being a visual learner achieve the best results using the sense of sight. The most important thing for them are images so to their learning they prefer to use pictures, graphs, presentations etc.

Auditory learner
For an auditory learner the main way of learning is hearing and speaking. The most effective methods for them are learning by reading aloud, listening to music, listening to the dialogues and other information.

Kinesthetic learner
A person who is a kinesthetic learner has to experience the material. They are known as “do-ers” because they have to do something all the time. Those people are very active.

Touching learner
This is the least popular style of learning. These people learn by touching things, experiencing touch on the surface of the body. They use their sense of touch and emotions.

And how about you?
Which method of learning do you use and which type of learner are you?

  1. I genuinely think that I am a visual and auditory learner. When I have to remember something for the longer time, I usually read my notes loudly, straight to my ears ;) But when I am going to pass an ABCD exam I can remember the answers even a few minutes before the test by my visual abilities. I am bad at cheating so I prefer study earlier and these methods allow me to survive on studies ;)

  2. I am also visual and auditory learner. I like repeating words, senstences which are really difiicult and important, because it is the simplest and fastest way for me to learn them. I like working alone and hearing my voice. I want to understand everything, because when I have some basic knowledge I can try to solve more serious problems, exercises. Learning by heart is the worst type of learning, because I don't remember these things next day. But there are some subjects when I use this way of learning ;)

  3. I am visual learner. My another method of learning is by writing those things and I remember movements of my hand. It is sometimes helpful. I also want to understand a problem becaose I think that it is more important and practical. If you understand something you can combine with it. If you learn something by heart and then forget, even a very small part of material, the whole construction is destroyed.

  4. I am visual learner and I also learn by imitation or by understanding. It'a a way rather logical than learn by heart. I need more time to study, because I must concentrate and repeat it immediatly and it takes lots of time. However,I must like the subject that I study because in the other way, 3-5 hours passing on the learn f.ex. biology does not bring any results in my case.

  5. I also am a visual learner. When I learn I need to see some notes, graphs, pictures etc.
When it comes to my method of learning I usually try to understand the problem. It is easier for me to memorize some fact when i really understand them. But I have to admit that sometimes when I can't understand something I have to learn by heart. Although I know this is not a good method, sometimes there is no other way.

  6. I am definitely a visual learner I must do notes graphs etc. to remember something on exam. However I also realised that Auditory element is also need for me. I noticed that I learn quicker if I was on a lecture or someone explains me the problem.
You present the 4 methods of learning and you suggest to choose the best for me, but I think it isn't work like this. You choose the methods of learning to subject. For example you can't be good in math if you learn it only by heart

  7. I think that I’m a visual learner. When I write some information in special order or in various colors- I learn more effective. Learning by understanding is the best method of learning for me, because when some topic is understandable is also logical and I don’t have to learn by heart- some facts are obvious.

  8. I'm not an exception. Similar to others - I'm also a visual learner. When I have seen something, it's definitely easier to remember for me. In my opinion visual learner is the most effective method. I think that second place is for auditory learner.

  9. In my opinion I am learning by the understanding. It is the easiest way to learn some material for mee. Sometimes I also learn by heart when the material is very boring for me. So I am Kinesthetic learner.

  12. I believe that learning by understanding and by solving problem are the best ways to get the hightest score on an exam. Most of people are visual learners, me including.
However the truth is that the best way to get best results is to actually spend some time on learing. More is better :)

  13. I'm the mix of visaul and auditory learner. The best way to learn for me is revising. I used to learn in the night in my last class of High School. And now I need total silence and I have to be focused on what I'm reading. What's more, I can't learn in the bed. I have to sit to the table. I think it is the matter of habit. Lately, the most popular place to study is BUW. In my opinion it's a bad idea. There are a lot of friends, who disturb you. At least, it doesn't work for me.

  14. I think I'm learner who like learning by understanding because I have to understand a subject to feel I've learned something. This type of learning consumes more time compared to another types. I know this by personal expierces. Which types of memorizing is the best for me? I think all. I love to hear, do, feel and look at something. I don't know why I have this but I think everythink is worth my attention so I note even little details.

  15. For me the best method of learning is by understanding and solving problems. I hate to learn by heart. I have a very bad experience in working with people who used to learn by heart. They are unsuitable for work that requires self-reliance.
I am a visual learner. It's difficult for me to learn from 'classic' notes - they are too monotonous for me.

  16. I always try to understand most important thing i have to learn. Learning by heart can help during exam, but when you have to use your knowledge in specific situation, this method shows it's uselessness. I also think I'm visual learner. But there are situations, in which any of these ways can't help me...

  17. As for me learning by heart is completly bad. Sense is in using informations, not being whole book full of dates, names and places. Especially novadays when anyone can get tons of informations with just 2 or three clicks. Of course - you have to use internet well, but learning many informations is in my opinion archaic.

I'm learning by understanding - i don't need to repeat many times but i have to understand two things - how sth happened and why.

  18. I study biology so I'm kind of forced to learn by heart. There is a lot of information that can't be learnt in any other way. Of course I always try to understand things, but this method is more useful in mathematics

  19. Without using "learning by understanding" and
"learning by solving problems" methods you can't learn anything pernamently. At last in my situation. Sure, I use first method a lot, ussuly when there is no time to learn. I can ingest few houndred pages in 2-3 days, but after few weeks I don't remember any detalis.
However sometimes you have to learn by heart - just like Wojtek sad. I love history so i know a bit about that.

What making my learning time more effecive ? I got used to link some information with facts, items, pictures in my had - and it work, you can try it by yourself.

  20. What about e-learning? I think that e-learning isn't the best idea for children and youth. It would probably raise our kids as robots. What I mean is fact that studying with other people have way more emotions than just sitting half of your day ahead your computer screen. We learn a lot of about real life at schools.
On the other hand, I think it is great for older people who doesn't have much time for traveling to study. e-learning gives you an opportunity to organaise your time for studying. It is a big advantage. This type of learning for sure will replace some part of normal studying method.
I use mnemotechnics sometimes and it helps to learn but alternative methods aren't enough.

  21. Each person has their own individual way of learning, which is used for many years and brings him the best results. It is, of course, to try new methods because they may prove to be much more efficient than the old ones, to which we are used to. I very often helps highlight the text, using colored sticky notes, glue learning material in various prominent places. My favorite method is a mind map.
E-learning I think is a very good option because it saves a lot of time. It's the one big drawback - it's easy to forget to execute the lesson :)

  22. I learn the Best when I use method “learning of solving problems”. For me is great method to understand and to remember everything informations which are important for my exam or other things. I am an auditory learner. For me the most effective is hearing and speaking about new informations. When I read aloud, I remember almost everything!

  23. I'm learning to understand. I have to know the nature of the problem. When I knew that I would not have to learn definitions by heart. Learning by heart is awful.

I have no idea which type of learner I am. When I start to learn, I turn on my favorite music and I put on the bed and I start to read read and read... For me it is the best way to learn something. Just think and think about problem.

  24. Like most, I’m a visual learner. What’s more, helps me to remember things is quiet music. I try to not learn things by hart, I always try to understand problem, because for me it impossible sometime to learn things by hart. I need more time to study, because simply I don’t study immediately - I must concentrate and repeat many times. But, everyone has his methods, and I do not dare to say which one is the best.

  25. When I am learning, it's very important to me to understand WHAT I am learning and why it's this way, not another.
I am always sitting and reading, until I understand everything, and when I understand everything I find the person who is having a problem with this. And then I explain.
It's the best method of learning on the world. Trying to understand and then explaining things to other. Or describing someone what are we learning. When we are talking about this thing we are learning it the best and easiest way.

  26. It is important to find out individual way of learning, which can connect different methods. I learn a lot of from imitation even today, the way of speaking, the way of being I connect it with knowledge and information.
Same times, when I learn about people from past and try to imagine how that person behave and with that picture I try to understand and compere the idea or problem nowadays situation or more familiar situation for deeper understanding.
I like to learn by hard somebodies thoughts to fill closer with that person. I am auditory learner and kinesthetic, I think. I have to move, do something when I am learning specially by hard and I, I have to hear the voice and speaking, I hate salient reading.

  27. I have always been learning by understanding and solving problems. I don't try to remember words or formulas without understanding it. When I understand I am always able to use my own words to describe a matter. And I think I am kinesthetic learner. For me this is the fastest way to learn something. I can read or hear about something, remember it, but when I do it than I am sure the matter is completely straight.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people?

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? I do not like categorize people, all stories are different. Probably everyone knows someone who is rich and nice person, and someone who is wealthy and horrible…What can determine behaviour of these people? copyright:http://theundercoverrecruiter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/money.jpg 1 .     First of all how they got their money. Some people are rich because they won the lottery and some of them because they are genius who made a discovery of new, brilliant solution. There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
