Barter

Barter is the system of exchange by which goods and services are exchanged by other goods or services - without using money. That kind of business was created in pre-money age, but still it is availed.

Even nowdays many transactions are made by barter in a big international scale. Official data (but unfortunatelly not very exhaustive) said that 20% to 40 % of transactions in worlds' trade are meking without currency. For example in 2012 Ukraine planned to exchanged their cereal (especially wheat) for Katars' gas. But the most interesting and meaningful barter exchange was in case of rivalisation of Coca-Cola and Pepsi on russian market. Because of difficulity with currency, conventional way of conquering this market was impossible to make. In this case Pepsi acted more flexible and exchanged their products for russian vodka "Stolicznaja", wchich is now one of the most popular vodka in USA. Coca-Cola reached to this market years later, when it was possible to make business with money.

The most important advantage of barter is the fact that there is no need of additional capital which is necessary for export. Also, as in example above, it helps to avoid the difficulities relevant to various currency which are used by contractors.

Barter also finds its place in inter-personal exchange. Thank to the Internet it is easier - there are platforms for multilateral exchange of goods and services. For example in Poland there is barteronline.pl. Unfortunatelly that kind of transaction is not very popular in this country. Of course barter has disadvantages (requierment of two person who want each others' goods and services, difficulty with balancing exchange), which estoping wider using it, but I think that in some case it would be useful.

What do you think about that conception?
Would you like to use those internet platforms to exhxange goods for which you have no use, for something you want to?

  1. I think this conception is really interesting. I didn't know that we have special platform in Poland. I would like to use those internet platform to exchange some goods, because for me they will be useless, but another person can look for something similar. The second thing is that I don't have to store these things and occupy a lot of space in my house any more. This person will take it from me and maybe I will find something interesting in his/her "stuff". In my opinion it is really good idea, but only if people take it seriously.

  2. I think in our century barter is not useful because we want make an transaction very quick. We have paper currency and we can use internet or credit card to buy something. Also I can't how it will be function in exchange services. From the other hand barter is very natural form of paying and most economics says that currency has more stabled value.

  3. Hmm.. I didn't hear anything about it and I guess that is very curious phenomenon on our market. Obviously we can obtain something cool and significant in return something useless for us. For everyone on this Earth it may be a thing with a high worth. I would like to use and check the site which is shown above.

  4. I have never heard about website like a barteronline.pl but I think that is a good idea to exchange goods and services without money. Some people want to unload something and if they sell it they probably make not much money but now is a great opportunity to exchange it. They can have something useful for them and give something useful for others. I think it is a good but I agree with the author that find two persons who want to exchange goods and services is very hard.

  5. I think it's a fantastic idea and the best project ever. It brings to my mind skill trade clubs, where you can learn some skill from others but at the same time you have to learn someone something else. For example, you can teach Chinese Medicine treatments and you are willing to learn playing the guitar. And someone, who can play the guitar learns from you about Chinese Medicine treatments. However, it demands open-minded, young people.

  6. In my opinion it is very good idea! Exchange various things like: clothes, mobile phones, sometimes even furniture is really soialize and economic behaviour. We don't have to spend lots of many for new things because everything we can find f.ex. in the net. But the thing is that only if people take it seriously.

  7. I think this is a very interesting idea. A useless thing for me, can be useful to someone else. In my opinion it is also good for environement because todays there is too many of everything, too many of products and by buying used things there is no need to produce new products and clutter the Earth.
I heard about the event when girls exchanged their clothes. I think it is a great idea.
I didn't know that there are some internet platforms to exchange goods but now I'm curious and I will definitely visit such page to see how it looks.

  8. I can agree that in some parts of economics barter may work. It may be the good way of exchange on the raw materials market. Countries would exchange one type for another. It would stop process of borrowing and prevent huge national debts and eliminate problem of exchange rate. But on the other hand in peoples' lifes it would be hard to accept. I can't imagine to exchange product for product during the shopping. In this case money are irreplaceable.

  9. I think this is a great idea to exchange things that aren't usefull for you, for example clothes that no longer fit you, for other usefull things to you. But I think that find things with similar values and to agree with the other person is difficult.
I have never heard about it, and I will try it probably.

  10. It's the first time I hear about barter, I don't know much about economy and that kind of things, but I think it's much easier to use money. As for platforms for exchanging, I'm not convinced, I prefer buying new stuff

  11. It's fine idea, because who said that whenever we want to buy something we need money? In Poland there is something like that for ordinary people and it is called wymiennik. It is a website where people exchange their abilities like cooking or giving a dancing lessons. For every "Giving" transaction they are given some points. I think it is also fine way to meet people with similar concepts of life.

  12. This conception is very good in micro scale. It’s great that we can do a trade with people from different part of the world without using money. But this is possible only in some cases. This idea is impossible to perform in a region or a country scale. Communists in CCCP tries and they failed fast:). Internet is very good place to do something like this, in fact it's only possible place to trade with American, Chinese or Indian people at one time in this same place.

  13. I'm surprised. However in my opinion this solution holds in not advanced economies and goods. We started to use money with good reason. Instead nowadays we will more and more use new types of money. For example – bitcoins. It's virtual currency, which is independent from rates of exchanges, influences of governments. Maybe that is future of money?

  14. In my opinion, barter can be very profitable for us. We exchange something that is unnecessary for something that we want without an extra charge. Thanks this idea we can be more environmentally friendly- use again various object and also save our money, because we don’t buy some new things.

  15. I not only like the idea of barter, but do so sometimes. I would be glad to see internet platform centralized on that model of 'shopping'. People are usually fair and both of exchanges I was part of were clean and beneficial to both sides.
Besides, only reason we do so is exacly what AB stated. We don't want something that someone else could want and we demand equal exchange. It is almost like chemistry ;).
Whole concept of being envoirenment friendly did not occur to me previously, but now that I think about it, it can be true. It is for sure better then making more waste to convert unusable things into something else. Something that requires different specifications of materials and must be remade etc. Not the point.
Over all I want to see if situation will progress to state of higher popularity.

  16. I think that this conception is very good, especially for people who don't have much money. You can exchange some stuff instead of throwing it to the bin. I've tried few times exchanging my stuff through Gumtree and it worked very well for me.

  19. Although I've heard about it before, I am quite concerned about it being a standard.

It was common to exchange goods for other goods in the past, but it turned out to be highly inconvenient. That is the reason why money was invented - small coins, easy to carry, etc.

However, barter itself is still present. Companies sometimes exchange things or services for other, instead of money - it can be solved this way.

  20. Well, it's pretty good, but what if someone will give you something broken and you won't reveal early enought? How we can judge the worth of thing that's broken? But leaving this aside - it's nice idea when you want to change things you don't use, it's hard to sell this, but with barter it should be pretty easier.

  21. I like barters very much. I first heard about this when I was working in restaurant, we had barter parties - we prepared a party for some magazine directors, and then they wrote about us in their magazine. It was worth for both of us.

I also like my own way to use barter idea. I don't like throw away things which can be usefull for someone, and I don't have a space in my room for them, so I barter, for sweets, tea and so on.

    It's very good idea.

  22. I think this conception is very good. We can exchange something that is unnecessary for something that we need. Many companies use this method today, it is good for those who do not have a lot of money and are just entering with a new product.

I think the conception is very interesting and it could be very useful, especially in Poland, where most people are not wealthy, but pretty smart and skilled.
I would like to use internet platforms to exchange goods, actually I will check out the barteronline.pl in a minute ;]

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people?

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? I do not like categorize people, all stories are different. Probably everyone knows someone who is rich and nice person, and someone who is wealthy and horrible…What can determine behaviour of these people? copyright:http://theundercoverrecruiter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/money.jpg 1 .     First of all how they got their money. Some people are rich because they won the lottery and some of them because they are genius who made a discovery of new, brilliant solution. There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
