Boring Winter Olympic Games

Winter Olympic Games will start in few months for the twenty-second time. In this edition in Sochi, Russia. We will see about 65 teams, each from another country and more than 2500 athletes will be participating in 98 events in 15 sports. The biggest hit will be speed skating (12), cross-country skiing (12) and biathlon (11). It's a huge winter sports event. But why? Why something there could be a hit? Half of this disciplines are popular only in few countries. For example curling (we'll be able to watch it whole Olympic Games) is really popular only in Canada, Scandinavia and eastern Europe. The same with bobsleigh, luge or skeleton. And this is almost 1/3 of all olympic games.  Take a look at this and tell me if you can take it really seriously and be excited about this.

Funny fact. Shure, every sportsman is aware of fair play rules but in curling world, when the participants are too happy after winning a game it's a faux pas. Sometimes the winning team is buying drinks for the losing team after a game. Is it still a game when the participants is not showing their competitive attitude?

I can say a lot of bad things about Winter Olympic Games but it's a huge event for some countries. Why? There is a lot of reasons and all of them are determined by others so it's impossible to find the most important one. Climate and specific landform is very important. Because of mountains and long winters with snow and a whole background like organized slopes, ski jumps or ice rinks in Scandinavia, eastern Europe, Russia, Canada - this countries and regions have a lot of amateur and pro skiers or skeletonists for example. And that is why we won't see ski jumpers from Spain or Brazil.

Other reason is more of psychologically nature. People want to do the same thing what their idols are doing. And how someone can became an idol. He has to be very good at something of course (for example be a great football player). And the followers want to relate to their idols. For example their idol could be the same nationality. It's like when the football club from Dortmund with Robert Lewandowski as a striker became a Champions League finalist the interest in football in Poland growth immediately and Lewandowski became a huge celebrity. And this mechanism is not reserved for something that is already popular like soccer. Do you remember Adam Małysz? Did he became an idol? And is ski jumps are a popular sport? Yes, yes, no. Why winter sports are not popular and for a lot of people boring? Because there is only few successful countries in this sports and other are just not interested in it and will remain like this.

1. So will you be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next year? And why not? :)

  1. This presentation is really good because I love winter sports and I can't wait to Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next year. My favourite sportswoman is Justyna Kowalczyk. She is Polsh ski runner. I always watch her races. So I will be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. I will be cheering not only Justyna but also our ski jumpers who are good prepared to these competitions. I would like to be a ski runner as Justyna but unfortunately it's impossible for me because I have some troubles with my knees. Of course I know many winter sports athletes because I'm interested in cross-country skiing and ski jumping. I know athletes from every country. It's my passion.:)

  2. I am not planning to watch Winter Olympics but that's because I don't like watching any kind of sports. But I think that this is important event for those athletes because sometimes this is the only time when they can shine and once in four years they are able to show themselves and their hard work and maybe get some money from sponsors for their next 4 years of practicing. They will never earn as much as football players.
If I have to choose I would like to try sky jumping.
From winter sports players I know of course Justyna Kowalczyk and Adam Małysz but also some other ski jumpers and runners.

  3. At first I would like to refer to aforementioned opinion. The author of the text said "Do you remember Adam Małysz? Did he became an idol? And is ski jumps are a popular sport? Yes, yes, no.". I can't agree. How would you explain than ten years after his top of the tree we have the strongest ski jumping team ever? In my opinion explanation is very easy. This team is built with boys who were delighted his success ( yes he has become their idol) and were able to develop their passion and skills. It was possible only because there was a proper infrastructure which was built as an answer for increasing popularity of ski jumping. As a small girl I was spending with my family all Sunday's afternoons watching "our Adaś" pummel other contestants. We, as most of Polish people, have known name of all participant for top 20. Is it exactly popularity, isn't it?

I'm not a big fan of any sports discipline winter or summer, but I think that in many case you don't have to be fan to have great time durning watching sports events. It is great feelings when your compatriot bite all other contestant even it is niche discipline. So I will be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next year, especialy Justyna Kowalczyk.

I like going tobogganning and I always do it when the weather is proper and I have enought time.

I'm not a specialist in this matter but my younger brother is big fan of any winter sports and durning talking with him and waching TV together I have gotten to know some name as Piotr Żyła, Kamil Stoch, Maciej Kot, Kowalczyk, Bjoergen.

  4. For me the first video is interesting, because it's only the best moment in this game. But agree, I can't watch it in tv for long time.
Yes, I will be watching Winter Olimpic Games in Sochi next year. I like this kind of event,so I can't elude.
I think people can watching this sports which are exciting or our contry is good at it. Ski jumps, Formula One are popular all the time. People love football in the past too, despite we hadn't got Lewandowski.

  5. I'm not going to watch it. Once, I watched Winter Olympics in Salt lake city, in 2002 when I was on the ski camp. I have to admit it was the dullest thing I saw in TV. OK, the only highlight of that event were hockey. When I was in elemntary/high school I used to go ski every year and I would play hokey few times in my life. Is Lewandowski the new top ski jumper?

  6. Of course I will watch Winter Olympic Games. I am a huge fan of sport and I couldn't miss ski jumping and cross-country skiing, especially when I have been watching them for a very long time.
I prefer watch winter sports than playing them. It’s just too cold for me to be outside.
A lot. Most, whom I know, are ski jumpers and ski runners, but also know others like Lindsey Vonn, Magdalena Pałka.

  7. 1. So will you be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next year? And why not? :)
Ofc I'll be watching it for sure! I try to follow every sport event so there is not way that I would miss Winter Olympic Games. It is one of the biggest event with the best athletes all over the world.
    2. Which winter sport would you like to play?
I'm fond of skiing and ice skating.
    3. Do you know some winter sports players?
I know a plenty of them and I don't thing that would be smart to list them here but,as everyone, I support Justyna Kowlaczyk and team of our ski-jumpers including Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła, Maciej Kot and Stefan Hula

  8. I will be watching some of Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, but not all. Only these more interesting for me. I would like to play hockey on ice, because it seems really fun for me. I know some winter sports players like Justyna Kowalczyk, Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła- these are my favourite.

  9. I think that I will watch Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, because like some people here said, I'm also a huge fan of sport and healthy lifestyle. I always admire people who are starting in competitions like this, cos it's really hard to become the best. In the past I was riding on a skateboard and also I wanted to try snowboard but unfortunately there was no occassion to do it. And what's about our winter sport players... well I will keep one's fingers crossed for our ski jumpers team, Justynę Kowalczyk and our hockey team.

  10. 1. So will you be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next year? And why not? :)
It depends on time which I would have. I didn`t know that Winter Olympic Games took. I like doing and watching sports but I have no time. College, job, social life, family and duties are absorbing all my time.
    2. Which winter sport would you like to play?
I love snowboarding and skating. When I started snowboarding and I came back from mountains I wanted to skateboarding but I havent enough money to buy new deck, trucks and rest of parts. However, whenever someones offers me learning of skateboarding I`m taking his skateboard and show him that I don`t need his lesson except difficult tricks.
    3. Do you know some winter sports players?
I heard about Sikora, Kowalczyk, Stoch, Hula, Żyła, Murańka.

  11. I will watch only figure skating because I really enjoy this sport. Maybe I also watch ice hockey because I wachted it during last Winter Olympic. I love skiing but I'm not really good at it. I know ski jumpers and cross-country skier because my family watch it every time. I also know some ice dancer.

  12. 1. So will you be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next year? And why not? :) I'll be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi because I love sport and I don't have to be very interested in each discipline but if I could see polish people who are competitors I want to watch this because that can give me a lot of emotions.
    2. Which winter sport would you like to play? I would like to do figure skating because it's a beautiful and very emotional sport and it must be unforgettable feeling to jump over the ice.
    3. Do you know some winter sports players? Of course I know polish players like Justyna Kowalczyk, Adam Małysz, Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła that are the most succesfull winter players.

  13. 1.I think that I will be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi but not every competition. It's very interesting event.I'm keen in watching Polish sportsmen. It brings me lots of emetions.
2.I really would like to try tobogganning. It's make me scare on a first sight because of speed, but I like to feel that specific adrenaline rush.
3.I'm not a specialist, but I know the most popular sports players, such as Justyna Kowalczyk or Kamil Stoch and of course the most successful ski- jumper in Poland Adam Małysz

  14. I think I will be watching Winter Olympic Games, but only these events which are more interesting for me as ski jumping, cross-country skiing. I would like to play figure skating, because I think that it is a kind of art. Skating makes me think of dancing, some of the acting. It also requires a lot of skills and effort, but I think the effect is fantastic. I know winter athletes. Mainly Polish : Piotr Zyla, Justyna Kowalczyk, Maciej Kot, Kamil Stoch, etc, but also foreign : Gregor Schlierenzauer, Thomas Morgenstern.

  15. I'm not a passionate on winter sports, although I can go skiing, so I would try watch Winter Olympic games in Sochi only thanks to sport patriotism. We have a few sportsmens who can win olypmic medals. I talk about of course about ski jumpers, ski runners and skaters.
    I know lots of
I would be downhill skier like Hermann Maier or Bode Miller, because this type of skisports methinks the most interesting and amazing. Downhill skier musts to be very flexible and prepared for high-speed and overload the body.
I know lots of winter sports players. In last years in Poland we have had big stars like Adam Małysz and for today Justyna Kowalczyk. We also have very talented ski jumpers like Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła etc.

  16. I'm not going to watch Winter Olimpic Games - so as I didn't my whole life. I just don't find it absorbing. It's like watching children sliding down the hill in the middle of housing estate, or maybe children are even more interesting - cause it's at least funny.
I'd like to play 'who's the first to make a snow monster!'. And I would surely go skiing if I could.
Okay, mhmm... yeah, I know Adam Małysz.

  17. So in fact I hate witer olimpic games, just because they are boring, and whats the worst its in tv channels all the time while it happen. So I'm not going to watch it. I really like winter sports, snowboarding, ice skating, and even going to tobogganning. Its really fun, and I reckon that snow should be only on ski slope. How about winter sports players? Of course Małysz, Żyła, Kowalczyk and thats all.

  18. I think that I won't be watching the Winter Olympic Games because I really don't have a habit of watching television but maybe sometimes I will just have a look when my mom might be watching. When I was younger it happened that I watched winter sports, especially figure skating which is a beautiful sport for me, and, of course, ski jumping. I sometimes go ice skating and it is probably the only winter sport I've ever had to deal with, apart from sledging when I was a kid. When it comes to winter sports players, I know a couple of names, mostly of ski jumpers like, of course, Małysz, Stoch, Żyła, Morgenstern, Ahonen, Ammann and besides, as I think most of people, I know Justyna Kowalczyk.

  19. No, I won’t. I don’t have TV, so it’s quite impossible. And the Internet transfer on my dormitory is hopeless so if I really want to, I just can’t. From winter sport I would chose hmmm nothing? I practise sport but I don’t like any from winter-type. I know some players, but only those who are successful. Like Adam Małysz, Justyna Kowalczyk or Jagna Marczuałajtis. How can I know others if I’m not interested? ;>

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm not very interested in winter sports (or generally in sports!). Of course, I understand the mania of Małysz or Justyna Kowalczuk, but there is only one reason why I know about them and I watch ski-jumping or other ski competition. It's impossibility to watch something different on TV, when there is a live broadcast of competition like that.
And if there's nothing else more interesting than ski competition, then you don't have other choice and you watch it.
In my opinion the same thing will be with Sochi. The other thing is that Olympic Games in Sochi are really controversial sport event. Frankly, I know I'm very young, but I don't remember the previous Olympic Games were so controversial. And maybe in connection with that more people would like to watch it.

  21. 1. So will you be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next year? And why not? :)
Maybe I will be watching Winter Olympic Games in Sochi next year but some disciplines for example skiing. I prefer other sports, especially tennis or voleyball. But I love winter climate so I like watching sports in beautiful winter scenery.
    2. Which winter sport would you like to play?
I don't know many details about these sports but I think that skeleton is the closest for me. Certainly, it is risky but less than for example skiing. It also gives a lot of adrenalin.
    3. Do you know some winter sports players?
Similarly to others, I know polish players like Adam Małysz, Kamil Stoch or Justyna Kowalczyk. They are a pride of our nation in view of their big achievements.

  22. 1. Yes I will watch Winter Olympic Games In Sochi because I like to feel emotions during competention and I will encourage our Polish national teem.
    2. I would like to try ski jumping, because I would like to overcome fear and fly!
    3. I know Justyna Kowalczyk who is personally very kind person, and Piotr Żyła who is always enjoying the time, anywhere he is.

we've got chances for medals in ski jumping, speed skating and cross country skiing. Winning is so exciting ; D
Frankly I do not like winter at all. I prefer to stay at warm home. But I like snowboarding. That's all
Yes of course, but mostly from Poland, and some ski jumpers from other countries and Marit Bjørgen. ; P

  28. I definitely would watch Winter Olympic Games in Sochi because I’m very interested in winter sports. Putting aside the sport aspect it would be big and spectacular show – it would be worth to see.
In fact I have a few winter sports which I like, for example biathlon, ski running and curling but my favourite is ski jumping. When I was young I was watching Adam Małysz each winter weekend and now I expected that Kamil Stoch bring to Poland gold medal from Sochi.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people?

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? I do not like categorize people, all stories are different. Probably everyone knows someone who is rich and nice person, and someone who is wealthy and horrible…What can determine behaviour of these people? copyright:http://theundercoverrecruiter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/money.jpg 1 .     First of all how they got their money. Some people are rich because they won the lottery and some of them because they are genius who made a discovery of new, brilliant solution. There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
