Should we build more nuclear power plants?

Public support for nuclear power has declined since the Fukushima crisis began. People oppose nuclear power for a variety of reasons, but the predominant concern is the perception that it is a risky technology. I think most of people who are against nuclear power don't know anything about it. So I wrote some facts of nuclear power plants and we can see how it really is.

Advantages:
1. Lower greenhouse gas emissions : Nuclear energy has the lowest impact on the environment since it doesn't releases any gases like carbon dioxide, methane which are largely responsible for greenhouse effect.
2. Powerful and efficient
3.  Reliable : Nuclear energy can be produced even in the cases of rough weather conditions.
4. Cheap electricity : The cost of uranium which is used as a fuel in generating electricity is quite low.
5. Supply :  This energy has a continuous supply. It is widely available, has huge reserves and expected to last for another 100 years while coal, oil and natural gas are limited and are expected to vanish soon.
6. Easy transportation : Production of nuclear energy needs less amount of raw material. Transportation is much easier than fossil fuels.

Nuclear energy like other sources of energy also suffers from some serious drawbacks. Let’s take a look at some of it's:
1. Radioactive waste : The waste produced by nuclear reactors needs to be disposed off at a safe place since they are extremely hazardous and can leak radiations if not stored properly. Such kind of waste emits radiations from tens to hundreds of years and can be used to make nuclear weapons.
2. Nuclear accidents : Even small radiation leaks can cause devastating effects. Some of the symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fatigue.
3. High cost : It needs a lot of investment to set up a nuclear power plant. It isn't always possible by the developing countries to afford such a costly source of alternative energy. Nuclear power plants normally take 5-10 years to construct.
4. Fuel availability : Unlike fossil fuels wchich are available to most of the countries, uranium is very scarce resource and exist in only few of the countries.

I think every kind of renewable source of energy has pros and cons, and since nuclear energy's pros outweigh it's cons, why not support the building of nuclear power plants? Greenhouse gases are collecting at an alarmingly rapid rate, and we need to do something to stop the contribution to global warming. If nuclear energy reduces carbon emissions, why not use it? Solar energy may be Eco-friendly, but it costs a lot to build, which less developed countries cannot afford. Why not build a nuclear power plant that can sustain the whole country instead, cutting down on costs? Initial cost may be high, but think of the returns. If it can last for a lifetime, why not?
I think nuclear power is the future of the world. It's not dangerous at all. Even Chernobyl wouldn't have happened if not for human error.

What is your opinion on nuclear power plants? Should we build more of them?

  1. I think sooner or later we would have to use nuclear power plants, because of pressure connected with race technology in modern World. It makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable when I think about it but on the other hand I know that it is the future. If we be careful, this idea will bring many satisfactory effects.

  2. Thinking about a nuclear power majority of people have in front of their eyes a picture of Chernobyl and it is the main reason that people don't want the nuclear power plants in their neighbourhood. I think that nowadays goverment should take some steps to change the way people perceive it. We will be forced to use the nuclear power sooner or later, because of reducing reserves of raw materials, such as carbon. What is more, the nuclear power has lowest impact on the environment which is very important nowadays.
To sum it up, I think that people should forget about the past and be open for the changes.

  3. I am not totally convinced that we should build new nuclear power plants. They have many important and valued advantages. Not only do they enable to receive cheaper electricity but also to a small extent pollute the environment, which cause that more and more people go for the idea. However, in spite of this advantages building nuclear power plant is a high-priced enterprise. As a result not many countries can afford to take action. What’s more, the potential life expectancy of power plant is estimated of 40 years, which is a main drawback for me.

  4. I think, Poland should have nuclear power plant. Many countries around of us have it. Nowadays knowladge about safety of nuclear power plants is huge. France is leader. Of course, we remember Fukushima but we can not compare location of Poland and Japan ( Japan is on the tectonic plates aboard). Power form nuclear power plant is cheaper than power form carbon power plant. Countries which have those energy can earn a lot of money and improve their economy.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I also think that Poland should build nuclear power plants. Our demand on energy is still growing, and we can't base our energy market only on carbon. Nuclear power is clean and cheap, technology has developed a lot since 'Czarnobyl' and as Mateusz has said we don't live in tectonically active area.

  6. All you have to ask yourself the question "do you want to live near a nuclear power plant? Would you like to have someone close to you to work here?" My answer is no. Of course, this is better than the factory with CO2, but have a lot of risks and I do not know whether it is worth it. Better are natural sources of energy, such as solar panels, windmills.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I am opponent of this idea. Even in such developed country as Japan is, accident happened. We can't predict all threats that may occure. Consequences might be enormous. We all remember accident in Chernobyl... It affected thousands of people. Many of them (especially those who were working right after accident near power plant) died because of cancer or radation sickness. Nuclear power plant is very helpful but may also be deadly.

  8. It's hard to express my feelings and opinion about this topic. I know that it's inevitable and sonner or later we will have nuclear power plants in Polnad. When I think about this kind of energy I feel quite stressful and uncomfortable cause in my opinion solar panels, wind power plants are better, more natural and of course more safety sources of energy than nuclear one.

  9. Nuclear power, coal and V8 engines! I'm a fan of this idea. I think that it might be the future because I don't believe in modern idea of natural energy. Maybe I'm wrong and in near future the would nothing but windmills but we'll see. For now only brutal power

  10. I’ve never been a great supporter of nuclear power plants. I think it is better to look for some other, more safety and less controversial, ways of producing energy for the world. However if we face the problem of lack of a fossil fuels and alternative ways of producing energy are satisfactory we will probably have to rely on nuclear energy.

    ReplyDelete
  11. When it comes to nuclear power plants, it cannot be denied that this is a kind of energy alternative which is really profitable. A nuclear reactor produces and controls the release of energy. It is used as heat to make steam to generate electricity. It is so beneficial that nuclear power plants emit nothing into the environment. Very little CO2 or other climate-changing gases come out of nuclear power generation. I think that this idea is really interesting.
Nuclear power stations are not atomic bombs waiting to go off. Moreover, it doesn’t produce smoke or carbon dioxide, that’s why it doesn’t contribute to the greenhouse effect. I’m convinced that we should build more nuclear power plants because they produce huge amounts of energy from small amounts of fuel.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It is very interesting, at the same time very difficult topic. Nuclear plants can significantly reduce costs and are long lasting. They are working widought break. But they doing as well many damages.
I agree one hundred percent of your arguments for , in my opinion, you need more nuclear power in the world. this will facilitate the lives of many people in the world . Yes, you have to take into account the consequences posed by explosions of nuclear power plants . They are toxic and deadly , but this happens really rarely . Disadvantages are a big problem, but if human won’t commit any mistake that will open the way to a brighter clean future. Our planet needs that clean energy, without them we will lose our home.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think nuclear power plants are dangerous. It could be the way to go, however we would have to research safety measures first. Nuclear power plants can prove to be extremely lethal, the most obvious example is, of course, Chernobyl.
Should we build more of them? Well, definately, they are the way to go, but only provided, that we are certain of how to protect ourselves from any possible tragedy.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think people who are scared of nuclear power are just not educated enough... Science is making a huge progress each day and we have to face it. Things that used to be impossible few years ago now are a daily routine.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And in this topic I'm not so sure. Nuclear power might by clean on the first sight but there is second bottom which many don't see. Nuclear waste have huge amount of energy which they radiates and are great threat to enviroment and after all there are limited number of places where they can be stacked. Of course amount of those wastes are nothing compared to amount of wastes from burning fossil fuels but they are much bigger threat.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I've heard somewhere that when it comes to Poland, it wouldn't really be risky for us to build a nuclear power plant. Most of the countries surrounding us have these plants near our borders, so it's not like we're totally in a safe zone anyway. I've also heard that on a larger scale, the waste from nuclear power plants is less harmful to the environment than fossil fuels waste because there is much less of it, and the procedures are much more strict.
It's difficult to say, however, if investing in one would be a good decision nowadays. Especially since newer technologies are evolving so rapidly that we may see something safer and just as efficient practically any day now. However, I wouldn't be scared if we built such a power plant in our country.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Few years ago, there was a discussion about nuclear energy in Poland, but most of Poles were disagree with that plan. Accidents in Ukraine or Japan gave a proof that nuclear energy is not stabilized and there's always possibility that reactor can blow up or pollute environment. Technology all over the world is progressing, but for now, are we able to contain that energy? It's still unclear.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think countries should at first focus on making more renewable energy plants and then build nuclear energy plants. I'm not against them as long as they are controlled by qualiffied staff to prevent damages and harmful impact on people's health.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's very controversial topic. Build of nuclear power plants has advantages and disadvantages. We can read about it in this article. I think that we should be carefully with build a new nuclear power plant. We also should think a lot about safety and strictly follow the procedures. Many people afraid of nuclear power plants, because they remembered huge catastrophes and their long-term effects (for example Chernobyl disaster).

    ReplyDelete
  20. I always strongly support the nuclear energy, it's cheap, environmental safe, and has continuous supply. Of course, building high-value nuclear power plants and storaging nuclear wastes are costly, but still, uranium is cheaper than carbon. Opponents of the nuclear energy are mostly scared of disasters like in Chernobyl, but since then the technology has evolved and the risk of similiar catastrophe is very low nowadays.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes! We really should think about building more nuclear power plants. This kind of energy can help us with problems like smog or other air pollutions, we can save more money in our government budget against spending them for conventional energy sources. Lots of people are scared of them because of Prypeć, they thinking it could happend again, but please remember that we have more power plants like this one in our neighborhood!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm not an expert in this topic, so for me it's really hard to express my opinion about it without knowledge. But, anyway, I don't think it's more dangerous for our planet than other kinds of power plants, so why not? In other countries they use it, so it can be a good option for Poland too. It is a good idea!

    ReplyDelete
  23. If there is something bad in the world that's nuclear weapon. That's able to delete all the humanity of the earth. That's why I'm against every kind of nuclear power plants. If I'd had an opportunity I'd order to close all the nuclear power plants in the world. Unfortunately I have not such opportunity now that's why I can only hope that the safety system oh these objects are really working well.

    ReplyDelete
  24. When I think about nuclear power plants I mean it's great idea provided there is really far away from me. Although I know that this solution has a lot of advantages and it's safe I'm stil a little bit afraid. But I'm aware that Earth needs new energy sources so I support nuclear power plants.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think that nuclear power has more advantages than disadvantages. It’s clean energy like air plants but it don’t need any weather conditions to work, it can be dangerous but everybody is careful and risk of radiation is small. Other sources of energy are also dangerous – broken tank with oil is killing life in ocean.
I think that we should build more nuclear power plants because it gives as a lot of energy and isn’t polluting atmosphere to much.

    ReplyDelete
  26. For me nuclear power plants are a very good alternative for a traditional one. As it was said in the presentation, they are not as bad for environment as the normal ones. Of course there are some advantages and disadvantages. But I think that there are more benefits. People are scared of them because of some accidents, which killed a lot of people. But they don’t understand the fact, that traditional power plants kill people too, but slower. They pollute air and bring a lot of diseases. And if nuclear power plants will be build in a right place, and with a good technology, which will provide people and environment from nuclear catastrophe, I think we should build more of them.

    ReplyDelete
  27. In my opinion nuclear power plants are great solution to save environment. Unfortunately they are also really dangerous - small mistake can cause huge disaster. I think we aren't able to trust nuclear power because of what happened in Chernobyl - we still remember that fear and anxiety.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think that building nuclear power plant is important issue and it has pros as well as cons. I think that reactor explosion in Ukraine or China is always in our memory. We are still afraid of this and it can be an obstacle in building new ones. I believe that the good technology can help avoid catastrophe and improve conditions of our plant.

    ReplyDelete
  29. In my opinion nuclear energy is a future and we should build more nuclear power plants. We should do something to protect our planet and fight with air pollution. When people will be cautious, nothing wrong happen. Only human errors can make emergency.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am totally behind the creation of nuclear power plants. They are much safer and healthier for us and the environment. They are much more efficient and more affordable for consumers. They have their drawbacks and some negative effects, but they are not at all greater than those of the traditional electrodes. We live in times where more and more electricity is needed. Therefore, in my opinion, we should also have at least one in Poland. Thanks to them, we could increase the use of electrical machines because they would become cheaper to use. In this way, air pollution could be significantly reduced.

    1. Undeniably nuclear power plants have many advantages especially for an environment but would you like to live nearby such a power station? Would you like to bring up your children in a neighbourhood of it? I think being on for building a power plant in Poland or against is a question if you agree to build it in your hometown.

  31. To be honest, I associate nuclear energy just with Chernobyl. But - what is important - I'm not interested in this subject, so I even don't know what is the current situation in the world connected with nuclear power plants. This article has shown me, that they have a lot of advantages. In my opinion the most important of them applies to greenhouse gas emissions. They cause climate change and are very dangerous for inhabitants of the Earth. If it's possible to reduce their emissions, we should build more nuclear power plants.

  32. Everyone is expected to be innovate and eco, but think about hazardous way of nucler energy. No everyone can afford to have it. Main point are specialits, only the biggest countries have them, and only with them nuclear power could be safe. Great example was Soviet Union, they didn’t have enough money, specialits and knowledge to have it, and due to human error happend the catastrophe of Czernobyl. So to me, If you have enough knowledge and etc., only then you can afford to have a nulcear power in your country.

  33. Most European countries have on their territory a nuclear power plant, at least one. It helps in many things. There is still a mistaken belief in Poland that this is dangerous - such events as Chernobyl occur very, very rarely, so we are unnecessarily prejudiced.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It is very controversial topic. Thera are of course advantages like: lower greenhouse gas emission, nuclear energy is powerfull, efficient and reliable, it is cheap electricity and it is easy to transport. Nowadays people are still afraid of nuclear energy, because of some tragedies connected with nuclear power plants. I think it wil take some time, but final nuclear power plants will be all over the world.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Every initiative has its pros and cons. When it comes to nuclear power plants in my opinion benefits outweigh the costs and risks. They are efficient and are not that harmful for the environment as other, traditional power stations. For me people should take advantage of an opportunity to create more of them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I believe that Poland should build nuclear power plants because power plants are a great way to generate energy. I think that they should be built in isolation so that the local population would not protest building. We all remember the events in Chernobyl and I think it was the fault of man, not the power plant. We should hire qualified employees who will not allow you to repeat this situation.

  37. Oh, what great memes!
In my opinion nuclear power plants are both huge chance to growth and considerable danger. As like most of technology issues, as nuclear power plants are a topic a lot of severe discussion. It is insignificant that not everybody have a large knowledge about it - everybody have a vote. In my humble opinion, we don't need a nuclear power plants. Maybe I am sensitive to it because I read about tragedy in Chernobyl and I know that people struggle with fallout of it for today. I know that technology is on the higher level than 32 years ago, but I care about my and my friends healthy, I fear nuclear power.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree, nuclear power can save our world. Of course it might be dangerous, but our technology improve as well. People are scared of those plants, but nobody counts deaths while getting oil or coal. It the same case with planes - statistically they are the safest way to transport but there are people that think, they are more dangerous than for example cars... Yes, in both cases when something bad happens, many people will die at once, but still, there are not to many accidents.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So nuclear power... One association that I have is Chernobyl. Actually, I am very scared of nuclear power. I think now there are another options to gain energy. Water power stations or wind power, power of sunlight (sun batteries). So we should choose them instead of dangerous nuclear power, but it is only my opinion (IMHO).

  40. Nuclear power plants are a questionable issue. On the one hand there are a number of benefits of building this type of power. From my point of view the most crucial is that it source of energy is profitable and efficient. Simultaneously, it has rather low impact on environment. On the other hand, there are convincing drawbacks. The most frightening is a vision of nuclear accident. In case of nuclear accident everything around is damaged and generally speaking is takes a huge and devastating effects. What should I add is that investment is tremendously expensive. Nevertheless, the generation of electricity is incredibly low, at least in comparison with carbon power.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The article is about the building of nuclear power plants. The article describes the advantages and disadvantages of introduction of nuclear power station.
I think that the introduction of nuclear power plants has more drawbacks than advantages. First of all they are dangerous because of the nuclear accidents. As we know from the history, the consequences of such accidents are horrible. The other main disadvantage of the nuclear power stations is the high cost. Not only raw materials are rather expensive, but also the wastes of the power station causes some costs. That is why I can say that to invest for the nuclear power stations is a rather hard decision that requires the analysis of the market and the analysis of all costs.

  43. In my opinion the nuclear power is the best kind of power which we could use. It's very safe, because of many of restrictive regulations about energy menagement and ways of storage all of radioactive waste. Every innovation could be incertain, but we should remember that Poland is surrounded by a lot of power plants, so we should notice that it's normal and needed.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes, the nuclear plants are potentially dangerous. Yes, they can go boom. Yet there are still many nuclear plants all around the globe, and only like two of them ever malfunctioned - where Chernobyl was in fact not the structural flaw of sorts, but grave human mistake. Such matters should definitely be handled with at most care, obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  45. For me adventages of nuclear power plants are much more significant than disadvantages. I think Polish people are just scared of this kind of power plant, because they remember tragedy happend in Ukraine. I understand that such catastrophy make them opposed to nuclear energy, but on the other hand all of our neighbouring countries have nuclear power plants. If incydent of Chernobyl would ever recurred , there would be no difference for us if this would happend in Germany, Poland or Lithuania. We would suffer anyway.
In my opinion, not counting problem of radioactive waste, nuclear power is the most environmentally-friendly solution. I hope despite all of there fears, within a few years we will start building nuclear power plant in Poland.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I thinik that nuclear energy is solution for our energetic problems - coal with his pollutions, natural gas with dependation of Russia. The problem is that in Polan peaple believe that nuclear power plants are dangerous after the Chernobyl disaster. In my mind we should think that the risk of nuclear disater exisist If in Poland would be sucha a plant or not. Close to our borders for example in Lithuania there is a nuclear plant. And if it is damaged the nuclear fallout will infulence on our state. So i think that it is our stupidity to do not benefit from the nuclear blast. Radioactive waste is a problem but I think that It would be solved maybe we can just trow it away in space. It's joke, I am not a scientist but I think that they can find the solution.

  47. I read fragment of Svetlana Alexievich’s book about Chernobyl disaster in which soldier tells about tragic results of radiation on his health. It can scare so I understand people who are against nuclear power plants but we should remember that it was few years ago. Today we have better precautions so it’s almost impossible to repeat mistakes from 1986. In my opinion nuclear power has more advantages than disadvantages and it can save the environment so maybe we should consider developing this kind of energy.

    ReplyDelete
  48. "It's not dangerous at all. Even Chernobyl wouldn't have happened if not for human error." That's not a good argument. Human beings are fallible by nature. And let's look at what a human error has caused in this case. So I think your argument actually serves against nuclear power. To convince me that nuclear power plants are safe, you would have to provide some evidence. "Even small radiation leaks can cause devastating effects" If even some small radiation can be so harmful and humans, as we know, make mistakes and will always do so, what kind of protections do we need to be secure? We need to have more information about the precautions in order to form any opinions about the level of safety. The only discussion we should be having should revolve around how effective and solid these precautions are.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think - yes, sure, why not. It is not one of my favourite topic, I can read about it a lot, but do not actually have a statement in this case. You know, I think it is not really safe, but effective, so it have good sides and bad sides like everything on this planet. Maybe some people who really care about this topic and know some more information than these from this article should say a word? I am not an expert.
I can say that I am a big fan of natural ways of getting energy, but it won't least forever, so do whatever you want folks.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I can agree, there are more pros to cons in using nuclear power. It doesn't produce greenhouse gases, it's more efficient than any others that don't either. I am sure that Poland and other countries that don't have it, should build them asap. The main problem in Poland is that it's been affected by the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe and people are still scared of it happening again. I think people should be told that now we know what caused the outbreak and that it is unlikely to happen again, especially because nature won't cause it either, cause Poland is free from eartquakes.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I guess that it is a tough topic. I understand why people can be against that, especially ones who would live in the close area of a power plant. Even a small accident can lead to devastating effects, that will be extremely dangerous for thousands of people, so it is obvious that nuclear power may seem frightening to some people.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm convinced that we need more nuclear power and we should take a look how it works. Of course every sort of energy has pro and cons but as long as pros of nuclear energy outweight its cons, we should treat it as a sensible solution. The cost of building nuclear power plant is obviously high but then it's really and surprisingly beneficial. What's worth mentioning, is the fact that it produces enough energy for rapidly growing population and doesn't emitate as much toxic gases as other sources of energy do. I'm of course in favour of it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Of course we do. It is a complete ignorance to say no. Fortunately, we are at such a point that we can and should draw all possible conclusions from the accident not only in Chernobyl, but also in other power plants in the world, precisely so that being richer in the experience and suffering of others we do not make the mistakes they have made.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I believe it is really good idea to built more nuclear power plants. It can help us with many social problems like air pollution or smog. Moreover it is cheap so government doesn’t have any problem with that. Technology has envolved so we should go with it and take care of us and our planet in modern way.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I believe that we should go for nuclear power plants. I don't think that we should be really concerned about eventual accidents like this in Chernobyl. I agree with the statment from the post - it was human error. Nowadays our technology is more advanced. Science launches new solutions for our problems everyday. We should trust scientists and try new ways of energy acquisition - it is our future.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nuclear energy is dangerous. But our world is already dangerous. People invented it a long time ago and wanted to use it for different purposes. But if we compare this power with the Internet, then it looks like it can be of great benefit or if used badly, terrible harm to the whole world. But we should not refuse to improve the economy, the standard of living and to raise the standard of living in our country.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think we should build more of them because the advantages outweigh the problems. For instance, radioactive waste can't just be set into space. We need to store it for now. Accidents are a big talking point, but all sorts of big machines can cause problems, like planes. We can't stop them from expanding. High cost also doesn't seem like a problem, as in the long run, it's cheaper. Regarding fuel, it's harder to find, but we haven't been trying to look for it as hard as we have been trying to find classic fuels, so maybe there is more of it.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
