Bachelor and bachelorette parties

Bachelor and bachelorette parties
A 'bachelor' or 'bachelorette' party is an event celebrated shortly before a wedding. It is said to be 'the last night of freedom' although more often than not it isn't actually celebrated on the exact night preceding the wedding, as the choice of alcoholic drinks is popular.
There are many ways to name the said event, the most popular being bachelor/bachelorette night, as well as stag night or stag do for men and hen night for women. More and  more often these events extend over longer periods of time with the name 'bachelor weekend' or 'stag weekend'.
Statistically, more men than women decide to have those kinds of parties, ergo , there are many more traditions related to the male version of the celebration.
There is also a rise, typically for English and American bachelors and bachelorettes, in a 'hen and doe night' when both the bride and groom-to-be attend.
USA
This tradition is believed to have been born in the USA, and therefore this country is responsible for establishing many compulsory or optional activities that take place.
The most popular spot for a bachelor night in the USA is undeniably Las Vegas. It is often also the location of the wedding, especially when a couple decides to 'elope', which means get married without any planning or preparation. This is very often depicted in popular sitcoms.
Among other typical elements of the night are hiring a stripper, consuming enormous amounts of alcohol by all party members and gambling.

Women tend to celebrate this night rather less wildly, frequently going to spa destinations. They also like to have themed parties, for example a cowboy theme, where all attendants (compulsorily, all have to be women) wear cowboy hats and boots and go to a themed restaurant to have spicy meat and ride a mock bull. It is also more common for women rather than men to give the bachelorette presents, which are often 'lascivious'; the most popular gift is a sex toy.
United Kingdom
Bachelors of the UK are fans of parties lasting longer than just one night and often travel abroad. The most popular destination  is Krakow in Poland, followed by Dublin and Riga. This has come about because celebrations in the recent years have been so wild in the UK, that not many establishment owners agree on hosting such parties. Bachelors had a habit of causing irrevocable damage which insurers never anticipate to safeguard.
France
In France the night is treated less like the last night of freedom, but rather as a night of transition: from  maidenhood or boyhood  into womanhood and  manhood respectively. The night includes games, alcohol and humiliation of the star of the night (bride or groom) through story-telling and pranking (prank: combination of the words 'practical joke').
Germany
Despite having the tradition of stag and hen nights, Germans also celebrate the so-called Polterabend, during which family members and friends of the young couple break porcelain to bring luck in the future of the pair. According to folklore the loud noises accompanying the breaking of porcelain scare away bad luck and all evil.

2. Which tradition do you like the most?
3. How do you plan on celebrating your stag/hen night?

  1. I don’t have any opportunity to take part on a hen night that’s why it is really hard to say something about it but I know some ways to organize it in Poland. It is really common to choose a club and there spend the whole night with friends, dancing, singing and drinking. Some people spend also this night at home and prepare a small party with relatives.
I think that men organize a stag party on the same way as women but probably with more alcohol and beautiful women.
When it comes to me, of course, I want to celebrate my hen night. I have an unusual idea for preparing it because I want to spend it with my friends abroad. Staying on a hotel in Turkey in Belek (it is my favorite) and having some relaxation thank to massage and spa could be a really good idea. Me and my fellow hens could relax at the skilled hands of selected therapists who perform a range of therapies. After this chillout I would look like beaming, relaxed and beautiful on the most important day. During the stay in Turkey, I would like also to visit Cappadocia and have a long-duration balloon flight. Oh, dreams… please, come true…

  2. As far as I remember most of my friends had hen night in American style: going out to the club, to the restaurant before, lot of alcohol, stupid presents, etc. Happily or maybe unfortunately (still not sure;) nothing like in The Hangover movie happened during those parties.

  3. Stag night is quite important for future husband - I know that from my friends. But everything depends on the best man of the groom - he organize everything. Bachelor parties are different, but there are always some unusual attractions and of course lot of alcohol. I hope that my stag night will be fantastic.

  4. I have never been on a steg/hen night but I hope one day I'll come to my own! USA tradition is my favourite. I love the idea of a wild party in Las Vegas. I'm not even able to count how many movies I've watched about it! I mean, it's your last night of freedom. It has to be as crazy as possible, and you got to have your best friends around you.
I think it's too early for me to even think about marriage, but I hope my party will we be hard (or maybe easy?) to forget!

  5. Honestly I haven't experienced any bachelor party yet, but I know that period of life of my generation is coming up. I feel that the stereotype of these parties is exaggerated for purpose due to the commercialization of everything we do in our life. It's all about money, as always.

  6. I was once on a stag night of my friend but it wasn't as hardcore as I heard they can be. I was even dissapointed because it was rather just plain meeting of "stags" than some kind of party. But what can I say? I've never thought about my stag night but in my opinion it's not grooms problem how his friend want to farewell him.
It's also one of traditions I heard about.
USA sounds like my type, hard party but without causing damage. I also think that bachelor party should suit future groom not vice versa.

  7. To be honest bachelor tradition afraid me. Fortunately in Poland strip club or the other foolish ideas are not as popular as in the West Europe or in the USA. I don't understand why people want to break their wonderful moment of life and before marriage look at some naked bottoms. I think that it's a fall of civilized society, because animals instincts lead people and everybody allows that. I hope that my stag night will be legendary. I hope my friends will stand up to the challenge and we will drink, sing and enjoy until the morning sun tells to us "Goodnight"

  9. In Poland we celebrate it in similar way like in the other countries. Friends are going to the party, most of guys are going to striptease club any just get drunk. Actually, I completety don't understand this kind of "celebration". We should be extremely happy that finally we get married and we can be with the beloved person till the end of our life and don't consider it as the last chance to be crazy, cheat on and get totally lost. So, for me, just go to the restaurant with friends to talk, have fun, eat our favourite food and remember the time before engagement it's enough. And I think that I will spend it in this way.

Bridesmaid tend to preapre whole party starting of entertainment and ending with partying at the club, best maid should go along with bride and do everything to satisfy her , Guests tend to wear stylish dress but they cannot look better than star of the evinnig. Usually the the party lasts day 2 Honestly i cprefer tradition from france and usa the most owing to the fact that in Poland we have similar ideas to spend this last free night 3 i will not prapre my stag bexouse in our tradition every bridesmaid deals with it.

  12. Bachelor and bachelorette parties are getting popular in Poland. I’ve never been at bachelorette party but I heard that here in Poland this type of party seems American stag and hen nights. Especially because of alcohol, clubbing and doing stupid things. I’m not a fan any tradition presented in this article because I’m not a fan of bachelorette and bachelor parties. When I get married I’m going to spend last night of my freedom at home with my friends and bottle of wine talking about past when we were young, free and crazy.

  13. In Poland bachelor/bachelorette parties are celebrated in a calmer way than in the other countries. Obligatory element of hen night are diffrent games/ quizes about fiancée, white "veil" on the bride's head, delicious food, alcohol and a lot of laugh and fun. I was on a bachelorette party of my sister and it was a nice time. When I will getting married I'm going to spend this time with my friends talking about past, crazy times, eating delicious dishes, laughing a lot, maybe singing or dancing a little bit and that's all what I will be need.

  14. I've never been on hen night so I don't know how it really looks like. I only can imagine this.
Sometimes, here in Warsaw, I see group of girls starting party in centrum, mostly they are wearing party cups or bunny ears, and of course bride have more gadgets like small veil. I think people like parties so it;s one more opportunity to feel god with best friends as "free women".
I also feel worried when I think about bachelor parties because in TV we see that it's time when man doing really stupid things. Of course it's overstatement ;) Mostly they are sitting in pubs and drink beer together!

  15. I was at hen night once, before my sister wedding. It wasn’t big – 4 of 5 of her friends and me. We made pizza, eat and went to club. I think that most hen and stag nights is about drinking and clubbing. I didn’t hear about other kind of celebrations from my friends.
I like this german tradition with breaking porcelain. It’s original way of showing support to couple. But there is also a lot of scavenge…
My hen night? I’ve never thought about this. I have mainly male friends so most probably I’ll just meet with my sister, cousin and wife of other cousin. In fact I don’t even need hen night. Wedding isn’t being on leash with no possibility to have fun.

  16. Actually I wasn't born in Poland that's why I've no idea how the bachelor parties are going on here.
I liked the tradition of U.K. more, than any countries'.
I'm planning to have a good bachelor party)) cause it's like marriage and can be one time during a life. I'd like to travel with my one or two close friends. To have an adventures and be back relaxed and full of good memories.

  17. I think bachelor\bachelorette parties in Poland are very similar to the American ones. People just go to the clubs, drink a lot and dance. I really like a British tradition where you can go abroad and have there amazing days with parties of your life. I have never thought about organizing my hen party so I don't know how would I organize it. But I'm petty sure that it would be a lot of fun.

  18. Bachelor and bachelorette parties are similary in Poland. It is party organized by friends of fiences and they spend time separately. Generally the point is that it should be the best last party before wedding. These event take places in clubs or in house. Usually there are more atractions like photo session or quizzes about "other half", and I really love it!

I think that I would spend my hen night with my best friends and I would have a small party, not huge rave. But I am not plannig it yet.

  19. I think that bachelor / bachelorette parties are very often celebrated in Poland. However, I think that we do not have one specific traditional celebration. It probably depends on what kind of event a given group of people prefers. Some like to have fun in clubs, and others like an ordinary meeting in a bar. Some people prefer a thematic trip aimed at experiencing an adventure or choose a spa. For me, it is simply a tradition for us to celebrate bachelor and hen party. And of course I would love to have my own party, but I do not know how I would like to celebrate it, it will depend on the time when I decide to marry.

  20. These days bachelor and bachelorette parties are becoming more and more popular in Poland. I don't know much about bachelor party, but I heard some things about bachelorette party. Woman, which attend such party have to be dressed in the same way except the bride - bride should outstand. During that night bride usually do lots of dares - like kissing strangers or telling her secrets. I haven't thought about my bachelorette party yet, but I'm sure it will be wild and crazy!

  21. Bachelor and bachelorette parties in my opinion are a waste of money and time, and don't make any sense at all. If people need to celebrate their "not being single anymore" they are probably marrying the wrong person. I'm not into that kind of events and I wouldn't want to be part of it.

  22. In Poland bachelor/bachelorette parties are celebrated like in other countries with a lot of alcohol. I don’t have any expectations connected with it. For me it’s a normal party, then I will still be in relationship, so it does not make a difference– with wife or with girlfriend, I still have to be loyal etc.. Marriage isn’t a horror in which I can’t go to the party and come back next day. For me it isn’t anything special, you can have huge party every month. Now bachler party is more a bussiness, not a real pleasure.

  23. Evenings of this type are celebrated in Poland depending on individual preferences (it is difficult to tell me because I have never participated in any of them). Usually men go to bars (or strip clubs), and women go to a party, disco or organize spa evenings.

  24. In my opinion, bachelor and bachelorette parties in Poland are celebrated very strangely. Men go to a strip club and watch half-naked women. I'm sorry, but I can not imagine how it makes sense. I know a few authentic stories where the bridegroom betrayed his beloved women the day before his wedding. Beloved? I'm not sure ... Personally, I plan a modest meeting with my friends, drinking the wine and remembering old times without men - when we are singles.

  25. Such events in Poland are celebrated differently, but I do not think that chdozenie to a strip club is a great idea. As for the mind, the very idea of their existence is ridiculous, but that's not the point. Personally, I do not like such events, unless it will be done on my terms, witch is a normal party.

  26. Well, in Poland I hardly ever hear about something like bachelor and bachelorette parties. To be honest I have never been on this kind of party. I think if somebody is celebrating bachelor and bachelorette parties in Poland, it is more like going out with friends, for example to the club, pub or some other places. I like United Kingdom tradition the most. It seems to me quite fun and interesting and I love travelling, so it can be a good idea. I do not plan on celebrating my hen night yet. I think it can be something like UK tradition, I will travel with my friends and just take the moemnt.

  27. I think the Bachelor and Bachelorette parties have got more popular in last 20 years and have become more similar to those from the USA. Before then the Bachelor parties were more popular than the Bachelorette parties. The groom and his friends used to get drunk the night before wedding. It wasn’t nice tradition in my opinion. I like the Great Britain tradition the most. Unfortunately it’s too late for me to think of my own Bachelorette party but my youngest sister is getting marry next year so maybe there is still chance to have fun in this way.

  28. I've never attended a polish Bachelor night, nor ever cared to see how one of such looks like. My only guess would be lots and lots of alcohol, and loud music, that's as far as my imagination goes here. Still, I feel like it's a fun tradition by the meaning of it - last crazy night before your life becomes settled and boring. (That aside, why do people get married if that's how they see marriage, as limiting themselves?)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have never attended is such party so I don’t have any experience. As far as I know people at bachelor/bachelorette parties are mainly drinking. Participants, amount of alcohol, and of course money decide how they spend whole night or weekend. I don't really like this tradition. If I would organize hen night I’ll have it week before the wedding rather that the night before. I don’t understand why people decide do have wedding after wild party.

  30. My approach is that all occasion is good to celebrate. Generally speaking we have a plenty of traditions in Poland and stag and hen party is one out of them. Personally, I want to have a hen weekend. Nevertheless, as for details, I do not want to know them. I dream about surprise. The most attractive seems to be an example of bachelorette party in USA. I am rather against parties and I would prefer more calm celebrations. Spa would be perfect. I agree that men have a tendency to have longer parties. They often spend all weekend on parting whereas for women one night is suffice.

  31. Tradition of stag parties and hen nights is not common in Poland. I heard about only two stag parties among my friends and one hen night. Hen night and one of the stag parties were typical party with alcohol and friends- generally nothing to talk about, but the third one was more interesting. This friend, instead of organising party, went for paintball with his brothers and closest friends. In my opinion this kind of activities is best idea for stag party beause it is something unusual and he will be remember that day, day with beloved people and full of fun, for a long time.

  33. Bachelor and bachelorette parties - I have never been at something like this, BUT I love this topic in american movies! It is more common in Poland now, so maybe one day I will take a part in party like this. When I was a waitress I have seen some girls celebrating. They were drinking and eating sweets, something like birthday party. After that they were usually going to a dance club to have some fun for the last time... I think it is okay. I would like to have my hen night with friends, maybe in a party bus? No, I'm kidding. I like parties in clubs and colorful drinks so... Can you guess?

  34. In Poland we celebrate these bachelor/bachelorette parties in very similar way to UK. Usually bachelor's friends prepare some extraordinary attractions for them. It is usually connected with a lot of alcohol, sex attributes etc.
I like the most the Tradition from USA for women who are going to the spa places for relax and having good time.
Honestly I have never thought about my plan of my hen night.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I haven't experienced any hen party, but I do not anything against those kinds of parties. I think that people in Poland celebrate it similarly and I don't see such a big difference. On this type of occasion people just spend time with their group of friends, enjoying their time, dancing, drinking, and just having fun.

  36. I've nerver taken part in a hen night so I'm not sure how it looks like but I think it's just going to the city, having fun with alkohol with friends, going to the club. I didn't like the tradition of Great Britain at all, it's just lack of culture and manners. It's horrible to damage everything around! I'd like to spend this last evening of freedom like people in France do. I find it very charming.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am categorically negative about such events. Bachelor party is some kind of nonsense. If you choose a girl with whom you want to spend your whole life there should not be a desire to arrange a bachelor party - this is terrible for me. Girls also.
The rest of the customs are just traditions that pass from generation to generation and do not carry silly ideas. This is entertainment for guests and an important part of the event for those who believe and abide by these customs.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I really don't see the point in celebrating "the last night of freedom". In majority of cases the person that he or she marries, is a person that he or she loves, so why the marriage is the end of freedom? I don't understand it.
However, if I have to choose, French way of celebrating bachelor party speaks to me the most.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people?

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? I do not like categorize people, all stories are different. Some people are rich because they won the lottery and some of them because they are genius who made a discovery of new, brilliant solution. There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
