FESTIVALISTS

Some people like to go on package holiday and some people prefer hitchhiking. Some people like to spend their time being active, doing sports and others like visiting as much as possible. But there is one more category that we often forget to mention when we talk about ways of spending our summer vacation. Festivalists.

Festivalists are people who enjoy and frequently attend festivals. Nowadays there are more and more people who like to spend all their holiday on going from one festival to another. And summer festivals also have become something more than just a backup for beer and food. They are places where you can observe what has been important in culture in the last year and what will be important in the next one. You can buy one ticket and see shows and concerts that you probably wouldn't afford separately.

Let's take a look at some of the most popular summer festivals from different genres that you can attend in 2014.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival is one of the biggest theatre festivals in the world. It takes place every August for three weeks since 1947. Fringe is a kind of festival where unknown artist can perform as well as the most famous ones. They have to pay a fee and then take care of promotion of their show to convince the audience that their work is worth choosing from another hundreds of events that are happening at the same time. Programme includes theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, musicals, operas, music, exhibitions and events.

See why so many people choose to spend their August in Edinburgh and spend a lot of money on tickets:

If you cannot afford going to Scotland you can spend your summer travelling from one festival to another in Poland. In the last few years we have developed venues that are important on the international entertainment market which makes it possible to invite well known artists.

One of these festivals is Heineken Opener Festival. It takes place every year in early July and creates new venues every year. It became something more than a music festival - programme includes theater, fashion etc. During 4 days you can see hundreds of artists and for many of them this is their first performance in Poland. This is also a great experience e.g. for theatre artists who can confront their work with people who are not able to attend their performance in Warsaw.

For two summer months you can travel from one festival to another and probably in every city you can find an event that will be worth attending.
Being a festivalist has become a new way of spending your holiday and I think that it is becoming more popular every year.

What do you think of this way of spending your holiday? Would you spend all of your free time in summer going on concerts, movies, performances? Have you ever been to a summer festival? Did you like it? Why/why not?

  1. I've never been on summer festival in Poland for example Heineken Opener Festival. I don't like it due to the fact that I'm not interested in this kind of music and I don't like atmosphere of concert. But Edinburg Fringe Festival sounds pretty nice because I like theatre. I adore actors who live recording. I'm very excited and impressed. I would like to go there but now unfortunately I don't have money :(

  2. True, there are more and more people who prefer join festivals to other kind of holiday entertaiment. I really like live concerts - it make me happy. Last year I was on Heineken Opener Festival and worked there as a volonteer but also attended in a lot of concerts. It was great experience but in my opinion going from one festival to another one isn't the best way of spending holiday. However, it's the best solution to have fun ;)

  3. I have never been to a summer festiwal but this is my dream. I love music, each kind bit by bit so it would be a fantastic experience to stand with huge amount of people and admire our favourite musician. I can only imagine that the atmosphere is indescribable, music moves our hearts and soul. This is a specific relations between us and musician who expresses all his emotions. So, in my opinion each person who is keen on music should spend his money on the festival but personally, I think that it is a good experience on a few days or a few concerts because after some time it may be simply boring. Unless someone doesn't see another way of spending his free time, so it depends.

  4. I have been to Heineken Opener Festival and Coke Live Music Festival. This was a great experience, especially Coke Live because I was waiting for concert of Florence and The Machine for a long time and it was an incredible night despite bad weather and a long journey because my dreams really came true.
I think that this is a fresh and interesting way of spending your summer and if only I could afford it I would like to do an Euro trip on festivals connected with theatre and music but also with film etc.

  5. I never had a chance to be at a summer festival, but I think that it would be a great way of spending holidays. Especially when every year there are a couple new festivals, so you can go in new places. You can meet interesting people or spend time with your friends. You can discover new bands and find out about movies you never heard before.
I would definitely spend all my summer going from one to another festival.

  6. I don't see myself spending all my holidays at concerts and other mass events but I believe that there are people that this is how they spend their free time. I was once in the event, which is called "MajóVWka" and this is organised in Ułęż in one of the weekends in May or June every year. This is a typical event for car lovers like Volkswagen or Audi (but mostly Volskwagen) and they flock there from all Poland. Everyone present their tuning cars, some take part in races and have fun together.

However, there is one massive event for which I would love to go, it is called Tomorrowland. It is one of the biggest electronic music festivals take place in Belgium. The best DJ's play there and people are coming from all over the world. I like electronic music and this event is an incredible thing for me every time I watch a video of it. Unfortunately, the costs are too high for me because the price for three days amounted to nearly € 200 last year.

  8. I've heard a lot of good opinions about Heineken Opener Festival, but I've never been there yet. I think it's great way of spending my holiday. We can meet new people around the world, get to know new culture, hear different kind of music. I would like to spend my all holiday going concerts, movies, performances, because when I have free time I like watch videos with performance my favourite singer on youtube. We have to pay for this kind event a lot, but impression are unforgettable.

  9. I have been on live concerts few times and every time was amazing.
I also agree with the fact that there are more and more people who convince to going to festivals. Great music on the fresh air, friends, a lot of new people around you, amazing atmosphere, because everybody dance and sing - sounds good to me. Before the concert you can also discover new places in the city where you are. I prefer this kind of spending time during the holidays.

  10. I haven't been on any festival yet, maye I'll try to attend one in the future but it won't be the Heineken Opener Festival. Isn't it just a huge party of carefree people? and the same with festivalists, what is their aim? To have fun, of course. So, if it's about me, I prefer spending time in a little bit more creative way. A gig of my favourite musician would be desireable, but in case of spending summer holidays I'd rather choose pure traveling than jumping from one feast to another.

  11. I have been twice on summer festival. First was in Krakow in the last year. The festival name was Czyżynalia. Second was in Warsaw at the turn of May and June in the last year. Both of them ware music festivals concentrated on rock and metal. I am still fascinated about the atmosphere of this events. Like author of this article said they were probably only opportunities to saw all of those music star in one place for a reasonable price. What is more a lot of those band visit our country very seldom, for example HIM was in Poland first time since 2001.

  12. There are festival people. I am not one of them. I prefer small indoor concerts. It's more of a closer feeling and better vibe than outdoors.

  13. I've got a few friends who love music festivals. They spent almost all last summer touring polish festivals from gothic music to electro. They are teens who like this kind of fun, with lots of people around, very loud music and hectoliters of beer. I'm not person like that, I've never been to a big festival I prefere small mood concerts in clubs, small stages and so on.
Maybe in the future I would like to take part in a huge event but I gues that this is so great and exhausting experience that one for me would be enough.
I like theatre so something like Edinburgh Fringe Festival sounds nice to me. : )

  14. I think that being a festivalist it's a great idea for spending holidays because you can travel to new place, meet a lot of interesting people and listen to a lot of good music. I don't think I want to spend all my holidays like festivalists but two festivals I think it's enough. Every year since I was ten I'm going to Woodstock festival in Kostrzyn near Odra that is probably one of the bigest European festival. I live 10 km from Kostrzyn so I can be there every year. It's a great place where every year you can meet unforgettable so friendly and open people and listen to good music like rock, alternative rock, folk, electronic, blues, indie or heavy metal on two stages. Everyone find something for himself. A lot of people criticize Woodstock but I think that they have never been there and they thinking stereotypically. If you feel a little bit of rock and roll in you I'm recommending you Woodstock.

  15. Unfortunately I haven’t been to any summer festivals, but I would like to join in such event. I think it’s a great way of spending free time in summer because going to festival can be a wonderful adventure and unforgettable experience. You can meet new people, know other culture, hear different kind of music. I guess that during such event there is amazing atmosphere, I feel that even though the scene is far away you are so close to the artist. I have the impression that everybody are all together there and I think it is what I like the most.

  16. I think it's a great way to spend time but unfortunately I wasn't at any festival, but I'm going to. I think I wouldn't spend all my holidays on festivals and concerts, because I like to do many diffrent things in my free time, but for many people it's good idea. Probaly next summer I will go on some festivals, but not too many. Gonna see how it is

  17. I was never been on festival. And sincerely before I have read this post I associated each festival with crowd of inadequate drunk people. But unexpectedly I realized how wrong I was. I even didn't try to imagine that there is so many different kinds of festivals. And it really can be a good idea how to spend your time with pleasure and in interesting for you conditions.

  18. I have gone on Heineken Open'er Festival every year since I was in high school. There is no better atmosphere in the earth! For me it is great way of spending summer free time, becouse of live music and people who can you meet in this kind of place. In my opinion organise music festivals can be great source of money too. In the future I am going to realize this. My job will be my passion, so it wont't be a problem for me to work all holiday.

  19. I have never been to any festival. Last year I wanted to go with my friends to Gdynia on Heineken Opener Festival but in the end it turned out that nobody went. Some time ago my friend Alex(he comes from Leeds) sent me link to the website of Leeds Festival and when I saw how many bands will give a concert I started to envy him. He had tickets...

  20. Fortunately I was this summer (but not only) on 2 great concerts, and I must say that vision of spending my holidays on riding from one to other is amazing.I really love music, especially rock and jazz, also I'm playing in a band, so the music is in my blood, and as every musician I love to listening my idols and learning their techniques during concerts (because it's not the same as they play in studio). I dream that one day I will fly to Woodstock, but nowadays there are no such great bands as this in 60' or 70' in my opinion, but all in all it's worth spending money.

  22. I think it is really good form of spending holidays. But unfortunately I have never been on summer festival. I would like to go to Heineken Opener Festival because in my opinion it is one of the most prestige event in Poland. On this festival is fantastic atmosphere, a lot of people and the best rock music. In Poland is organised many concerts, performances but not festivals. And when I would have free time on holidays I'll go to a concert.

  23. Yes! Summer festivals are great alternatives for spending your time and money. I was once on Woodstock and I won't forget it. Of course, maybe this kind of festival is not appropriate for everyone because first of all you have to survive somehow in difficult conditions like sleeping in a tent, washing in the sink but the ambience of the festival is unforgetable and you don't think about these things too often. You enjoy your time being there. In fact - I did enjoy this festival. If I could, I would spent my whole time on summer going from one concert to another but I have my responsibilities and of course - they sometimes costs lots of money. However, every time I can go to see cultural event, I have no doubts about that and I go there with pleasure. In my opinion this one of the most interesting way to spend a holiday.

  24. I am very ashamed but I've never been to any festival. I guess it must be something really special. Having seen all these pictures and videos from worlwide festivals like Tommorowland makes me want to be there ! It must be a great fun but also a great opportunity to make new friends. I think it's a great way of spedning your holiday time, but I wouldn't like to spend my whole time in front of the stage. It must be exhausting! Hope my dream of being a member of the festival will come true soon.

  25. No, because I don’t like to participate in such a big events so definitely I would prefer spend my holidays in different way, for example doing hitchhikinig. I wasn’t on any big summer festival but I’m convinced that many drunk people, crowd and loud music isn’t my most wondered kind of leisure.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people?

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? I do not like categorize people, all stories are different. Probably everyone knows someone who is rich and nice person, and someone who is wealthy and horrible…What can determine behaviour of these people? copyright:http://theundercoverrecruiter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/money.jpg 1 .     First of all how they got their money. Some people are rich because they won the lottery and some of them because they are genius who made a discovery of new, brilliant solution. There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
