Unemployment in Poland

Unemployment in Poland

Unemployment is now the largest negative phenomena occurring in Poland. Drama of unemployment relates more and more often young and well educated people, which is particularly dangerous phenomenon, which certainly will affect the future of our country.
The estimated unemployment rate (based on the number of employees at the end of January) was in February of 2013 years, 14.4 percent and, compared to January 2013 increased by 0.2 percentage points. In Poland, the number of unemployed at the end of February 2013 stood at 2 million 337.4 thousand people.  What is interesting, both in 2012 and in the first months of this year, about three times higher unemployment concern men than women. On the one hand it can be a result of the exemptions in sections staffed mainly by men, such as for example building industry, but also may be the result of  predominance of women among the unemployed vocationally activized. Experts draw attention, that a lot of people don’t want to start a job which is below their qualifications and finally prefer to stay jobless! Such people often are not even registered in the labor offices.

The main causes of unemployment:
  •         replacement a human working by machines,
  •         high costs of working, which don’t encourage entrepreneurs to create new place of    jobs,
  •          a converting  state property into private,
  •         faulty insurance system employees,
  •     changes in employment,
  •     employment cheaper labor from abroad

The effects of unemployment:
  •         loss of self – esteem,
  •    increasing number of thefts, murders, other crimes,
  •  the increase in poverty,
  •   development of gambling,
  •    educated part of the population goes abroad
  •  political instability,
  •  government bears the cost, because it must pay to maintain families out of work

The list of professions with the highest number of unemployment:
1.       Seller - 170 thousand. Unemployment among this professional group is the result of collapse of small local shops that lose out to supermarkets.
2.      Locksmiths – 47 thousand.
3.      Economic technician – 41,6 thousand.
4.      Bricklayers 38,2 thousand.
5.       Building workers - 37,8 thousand

Questions:
Is the problem of unemployment is very noticeable in your locality?
What can the government do to fight with  unemployment?

  1. I live in a small town and I can say that the problem of unemployment is bigger than in a big, bustling city. There aren't so many different kind of jobs and people have less capabilities. I think this problem will always exist. We read a lot about Great Depression and I don't think that in Poland this problem is as huge as it is in other countries. Government can lead and develope some special programs and policies which will "fight" with unemployment. One of this special programs is unemployment compensation.

  2. I come from rather small town (in compare to Warsaw) and i don't think that the problem of unemployment is very serious and noticeable in my area. Apart from big supermarkets, we have a lot of small shops where people always may buy some necessary goods for example rolls in the morning or alcohol late at night :) And I have similar opinion like my predecessor above -> problem of unemployment will always exist. People should think about their future because of situation on the job market. They can develop their skills and qualifications by attending on various courses which may be helpful in finding job for them. Government should show the people how can they get well-paid job and(!) and consistent with their interests. I think that free of charge developing courses would be great idea for people who cannot find themselves on the job market.

  3. In live in Warsaw. In my opinion it is a problem to have good job, but it isn't a problem to have any job. You wrote that experts draw attention, that a lot of people don’t want to start a job which is below their qualifications. I know people who do this. They look for job and very often they would like to have as a first job - very good paid job place! It is hard to find this place on a beginning you career. It is possible only if your parents or friend hire you. I would like to gain experience during the study and work in some place, to be one step ahead

  4. I come from Warsaw and I think here isn't very hard to find a job but it depedns on that what type of job you looking for. Every day I'm out home I see information a front of shops that they want somebody to work. I know it isn't satisfactory job but for someone who is unemployed always it is a solution to get some money for living or partying. :)

  5. I come from small town, where unemployment is definitely too high. For many years the main place of employment have been heavy industry factory. Unfortunately, after transformation there has been large downsizing. Some people were be able to manage in new situation, but many of them lost their job. Accord to last statistics, unemployment in this town is around 20-25%. It's reason that most of young people decide to leave from this town.

  6. In my hometown, there is very noticeable problem of unemployment. But mostly because people refuse to work in any menial sector. Because It is apparently beneath them. But employers also are to blame. Only work I could get around required to basically stay overtime every day. Because it was only way to get any positive income as employee.
One of best ways to help overall situation is to make it cheaper for employers to actually make any openings. Current situation is simply economic failure. But I don't have any magic prescription.

  7. Unemployment in Poland is a real problem. In Warsaw it is not visible because here is a lot of job for everyone of course not only very good but always it is something. In other part of Poland is very bad with job. There is no vacancy in our country and government do anything with it. I become from small countryside and there is more unemployment then people who have a job. Another problem in Poland is that people wants to go to well paid job at once they don’t want climb up the ladder they want to be at the top without any effort.

  9. I live in a countryside, but close to Warsaw ( 40 km). For me, unemployment is not a big problem. In fact many people are working but in official statistic they are unemployed. Reason of that situation is very high cost of legal employing. The black work market is only reason of GDP growth in Poland in last few years and why there is no big crysis in Poland. Of course many millions of citizens lefts Poland and they work abroad and they money transfers are helping us too.

  10. In my country, Spain, find a job is a very serious problem now. I am from a small town and it's a very noticeable problem, but I don't know if in bigger cities is easier to find a job or not. Government could do a lot of things to try to stop this problem, for example, I think it should help employees instead of employers.

  11. I from Warsaw, most of my friends have a good job after studies, it doesn’t meter of field of study. If you want find the good job you must be creative and power to work, If you generate a lot of contacts on the studies, non government organization, you have a better chance to find a well paid job. Ordinary recreation is very difficult for common people, you must be the beast on the paper, the head hunter don’t know really you.

  12. In my opinion it's very hard to find a job specially in small cities, but also it depend what type of job you looking for. Moreover I think also the employer should change their thinking. Nowadays many of them has attitude that they choose to buy a new car for them but not a new production line.

  13. In my opinion unemployment in Warsaw when I live is quite hight. When I prepared my presentation I found researches acoriding to them Warsaw and Opole have the highest unemployment among young people- after studies in Poland. However I also think that we can find job without problems but the worst think is satisfaction about salary.
Government should as fast as possible push law, idea how to use potential of young people and fight with unemployment among them. I also think that in the crisis times state politics should be based on intervention and etatism. Government should open state factories and companies to create jobs. In my opinion also unemployment aid policy should be changed. Government should stop pay benefits-it would motivate people to search a job. Because some of them are content about this help and don't want to change their situation.

  14. 1. In my opinion, unemployment in my location is average. Of course, sometimes I see a beggar on the street, but nowadays it’s a normal situation.
    2. I think that there are many solutions of this problem, but I don’t know, which are the most suitable and effective- maybe the hardest problem is an education- people get skills, which are inadequate to vacancy and can’t find a new job.

  15. Is the problem of unemployment is very noticeable in your locality?
    - It only seems to be. I think there is enough work places for every person who wants to work... maybe not dream job or well-paid job but always a job.
What can the government do to fight with unemployment?
    - I think it is a fight with much more issues than only unemployment. It is a whole process. Government can't win with the unemoployment not fighting with alcoholism or badly educated society.

  16. In my small town situation isn't so bad, but we have too high unemloyment. It was better in the '90s, when there was 2 or 3 industries in my town which provided employment for pretty big number of people.
As for me, biggest problem with employment comes out from big taxes for employers - you have to spend really big amount of money if you want to give someone legal job.

  17. What can the government do to fight with unemployment?

The government created program of ordered studies - they said that they are looking for specialists from technology, math, economy...So students of ordered studies can get money for studying (500-1000zł every mouth!) because they are needed in polish industry. So I think that it's good way to fight with umemployment, because if you study something usefull, you will find good job and there will be less umemployed young people.

  18. I must say that most of my friends have got good jobs so in Warsaw I don't really feel affected by recession.
The Government should promote and financially support appropriate specializations and technical courses which can give you job.
Some of the taxes and medical insurance shouldn't be obligatory. Less you pay to government more you are satisfied with your salary.

  19. In my locality problem of unemployment is not very noticeable. I live in Warsaw and I think in every big city in Poland if someone wants to find a job, he will have it. Usually jobs are not well paid, but there still is something to find on jobmarket. Maybe in last few months, a year maybe some rummors about downsizing can be heared.

In my opinion government does nothing to fight with unemployment. Situation of young people is especially difficult and the government does nothing to make employers to give a job to young persons.

  20. I live in Bydgoszcz where the problem of unemployment is very visible. That is why the majority of young people go away to college to other cities and also adults look for job outside of Bydgoszcz.
I really don't know what could government do to fight with unemployment. Each country struggles with unemployment and still no one has found the golden mean. I think it is a good idea to fund some training or courses. But the truth is that the unemployment problem will never be fully resolved.

  21. I live near Warsaw and most of people commute to their job in Warsaw, where, I assume, unemployment problem is not so high in comparison with another cities in Poland. But still it is a problem, also in such big city as Warsaw. As I see, the biggest problem is unbalance between expectations and reality. What is more, type of courses and study spacialization do not often meet rhe requirements of the markat, and thus, there are more qualified people than are needed. In my opinion, this is the biggest problem concerning uneployment and governemnt should take it into consideration in particular.

  22. The problem of unemployment is not as visible, but we know that it is big in Warsaw. The government should take care of this problem, create any additional jobs rather than pay for deputies and senators.

    ReplyDelete
  23. One of the things the government can do is to make employers afford to have employees - by that I mean an additional employee may turn into an expense.

The solution is simple: lower the taxes and social security fees (ZUS), fight with bureaucracy.

Lower taxes -> lower prices -> higher production/sales -> need for new staff -> PROFIT (for everyone)!

  24. Problem of unemployment in my location is not so noticeable as it should be.
When I was looking for a job it took me only 3 days, of course it depends on our aspirations, but I was satisfied. But when my friend was looking for a job month a go, she had troubles. Maybe I had a lucky day, or maybe it's because of experiences, I don't know.
But when I'm walking through my city, I see a lot of paper cards on shops "employee wanted" and so on. So there ARE places to work.

Maybe we have to high aspirations and expectations?

I don't know what should government do, maybe funding some trainings for unemployed, or funding to salaries for graduates?

But I'm sure that the problem is money.

  25. Unemployment is a serious problem nowadays. It's getting harder and harder for young people to find a job -having an university degree does no longer ensure you'll find a job. There are some problems in tour education system - it creates too many psychologists and ecomists, but not enough skilled professional workers such as plasterers, bricklayers. What's more, employment agencies do not always inform people about all their offers; sometimes you need to have some connections. We need to improve, change the social system a little bit, because now many people able to work do not want to work; they just collect unemployment benefits.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need different progr
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that parents

Does money spoil people?

Does money spoil people? There is a saying that ‘money spoils people’, which means that people who become rich also start being rude and nasty. Is this true or not? I do not like categorize people, all stories are different. Probably everyone knows someone who is rich and nice person, and someone who is wealthy and horrible…What can determine behaviour of these people? copyright:http://theundercoverrecruiter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/money.jpg 1 .     First of all how they got their money. Some people are rich because they won the lottery and some of them because they are genius who made a discovery of new, brilliant solution. There are also ones who are rich because they inherit all wealth from their ancestors… It is not a rule, but I think that people who work hard for everything what they have are more stable and realistic than ones, who don’t need to do anything because they got everything for free (without dedication or hard work). They won’t probably understand
