Let's talk about celebrities

Nowadays, popularity and fame can evolve in various ways. It's quiet easy to become famous. You can be known because of the job you have, your activity or your talents. There are also some people who are famous just from being famous. Being popular, just like everything else, has some pros and some cons, it can also lead to more or less serious consequences. As we all know, there are many different ways of being popular. I'd like to talk about celebrities.

There are so many ways to catch a spot light these days. Youtube, TV programs which invite  "normal", average people or apps like Twitter and Instagram. Anyone can be seen.

That's why celebrities are all over the social media. We can see them on TV,  apps,  posters, ads etc. The most characteristic feature that they all have in common is being famous, catching media's attention (for example tabloids). According to dictionaries, celebrity is someone who's famous especcially in entertainment business.

Sometimes it's quiet hard to determine, who is a celebrity and who's just famous. What do you think? How would you describe it?

I guess, every celebrity is more or less famous, but not every person who's famous has to be a celebrity.

Despite that, probably not all famous people can be labelled as celebrities, most of them may kind of act similar, for example by their activity in social media (which can help them to increase their popularity). It works the same way for actors, musicians, politics, youtubers or bloggers.

The main difference is that, from my perspective, people like actors or musicians, had to work a little bit harder to become who they are and achieve what they have. They had to train themselves, learn and develop their talents.
On the other hand, we have celebrities (at least some of them) who have nothing interesting to show (or just act like it) and are sometimes much more recognisable than talented people. Some of them prefer to do something weird, mean or stupid, to catch attention just for a moment.

I wonder, why do some people desire fame so much?

Personally, I find it quiet hard to understand. I'd wouldn't like to give up my privacy. I don't think I'd be able to deal with all the comments and gossips.

Single-sex education

A little bit of history Single-sex education was traditional and dominating form of education till 19th century. Almost all schools and universities were single sex, which in almost all cases meant – men’s schools. This situation started to change because of two reasons: emancipation of women (fight for equality) and introduction of massive education. The first mixed-sex boarding school in UK was formed in 1818, it was Scottish Dollar Academy, and in 1878 the first university- University College London, allowed women  to enter on equal terms with men. What is interesting, the first Cambridge collage, which admit men and women was founded only on  1964. Pros and cons The topic of single-sex education is quite controversial. Like always there are pros and cons, some of them are quite irrational, other have a scientific background. The most popular arguments for single-sex education: 1. Boys and girls are learning in the different way, so they need differ...
THE MOST TRUSTED  PROFESSIONS Many people say that their job is important for our society, but is it a trustworthy profession? A market research institute asked people about trustworthy professions. Here you will find its results. The Top Five Most Trusted Professions 1. Firefighters A 2009 poll conducted by market research institute GfK found that firefighters ranked as the most trusted profession in Europe and the United States with 92 percent of respondents fining them trustworthy. Perhaps it’s all in the job description—being required to step into the face of danger every time you head out for an assignment is not just admirable, it’s downright heroic. 2. Teachers In the same GfK poll that lauded firefighters, teachers ranked second with 83 percent. It’s a good sign considering that the people responsible for crafting the minds of our children are deemed trustworthy. “I think every teacher recognizes that they are part of a trusted profession—that par...
