This is
a well-known fact that these days e-learning has been more and more popular way
to learn foreign languages. Many claim that it is a positive phenomenon,
while others say, it has many disadvantages.
Advantages
First of all, e-learning is the
best way of learning for people who do not have enough time for going to
school. You can learn whenever you want to, at any time of the day. You can have a
break, for example for a meal, you don’t have to sit in front of the computer
for one and a half hour as in the classroom. You can save your time and use it
for other useful things. It is the best way for people who work, who have
got inflexible working hours. They do not need to take some time off from work,
especially for their classes. Another advantage is it that you can learn more
than in a classroom, because on a platform you get plenty of exercises weekly,
more than during traditional lessons.
Disadvantages
There are plenty of disadvantages
as well as advantages. It is difficult to motivate yourself doing those exercises. You
think that you have a lot of time till deadline, yet you notice that it is
Wednesday and the due date is approaching. There are a lot of exercises and
they take much time, a few hours. The third problem is that you can’t really
practice the pronunciation like you do in a group of people talking with each
other. And what about people? You don’t have a good contact with your
friends because you see them only once per week.
Do you agree with
me or not?
Would you add any
more of advantages and disadvantages?

Of course I agree with you Kasia, that e-learning has many disadvantages as well as advantages. Nowadays, there are so many opportunities to learn foreign languages. We can learn everywhere: at home, at work, at school, even riding by bus, on the computer, phone, through mp3 players, games, even talking with foreigners on the street. Each method teaches us something new. We have many opportunities learnig on your own such as movies, quizzes, various games and we can learn when we have time and willingness. Learning at school is different - we have specific terms of classes, but for me, the traditional way is the best, because I have contact with other people, I develop my knowledge, vocabulary, and I have more motivation to learn.
ReplyDeleteAuthor is completely right, e-learning (as everything) has its bright and dark sides. It can't be perfect but it gives many additional opportunities to study. Students, as everyone are very busy and sometimes online course is the only possibility to learn, for example, new language because if it wasn't online they wouldn't have time to do it. It is a great way to learn something that we never had time to. Of ocurse people have to stay motivated but if someone really wants to learn, it won't be a huge problem. I like this type of learning as well as traditional.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that e-learning has some advantages and disadvantages. And it's hard to write something more but maybe I'll write about myself and my feelings. I prefer a blinded lesson than a traditional one. In general I have problem with concentration more than 20 minutes so it's a great idea for me cause I do some exercises and next(when I start thinking about other things) I make a brake and when I feel ready I do next part of materials. For me it's more effecitve than a traditional lesson.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the author - as every aspect of life, e-learning has it's own pros and cons. I like it, because it gives me an opportunity to choose when I want to do exercises, without schedule and I can easier plan my everyday life.
ReplyDeleteE-learning is a perfect solution for people with a lot of classes in their timetables. It's hard for them to put one more in it. On the other hand doing all these excercises takes long hours... I don't know which type of lesson I prefer (traditional or blinded).
ReplyDeleteYou're right that this type of learning has adventages and disadventages.
As everything e-learning has advantages and disadvantages. For me the biggest problem is motivation to do exercises regularly, not everything two hours before a deadline. But is it really a disadvantage? Maybe it is time to train myself to be systematic and consistent – nowadays this are so important qualities which really help in work and daily life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I think that blinded lessons are really good because you have not only theoretical exercise on platform but you have contact with real people too. It is true that sometimes is really hard do platform regularly but we must practice our way of motivation. It can help us in real life.
ReplyDeleteI think that our e-learning is quite good. We have one class and we can talk in English, what is really important. But find more time for second class in real life could be hard, because like you said - some of us has too much classes and too less time. But you need to be motivated and organized to find enough time to do exercises on the platform. It can be not that easy and most of us making exercises at the last minute.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the author. It's true that e-learning is more and more popular. This is good , because grown-up people have chance to learn new languages. In blended courses I can add speaking lessons like the adventage. Disadventages are facts that on the platform you should remember about doing exercises and your deadlines. You should work regularly if you want to have some results.
ReplyDeleteIf it's hard for people to motivate to do online courses why do they attent do them? :D For me the best motivation is deadline. I think our goal is to develop our skills and e-learing brings much better opportunity to do so than traditional courses and i love the fact that i can listen to music during learning.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you.
ReplyDeleteI prefer a traditional course, because I have a big problem with the motivation when I should do the exercises on the platform, so usually I tend to do it minutes before a provided deadline. Moreover, I value contact with people, so when I attend to the e-learning course, I feel the lack of this. But it's very good way to learning for people, who have a lot of activities.
I think that e-learning have a lot advantages when you have a lot of classes on your head and really good that there is a lot of different exercises. But the main disadvantage as you can see is a deadline, since you sometimes completely forget about it and yeah, you can't practice pronunciations.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the possibility of joining e-learning classes because I live near Warsaw, 20 km away from the city center and it takes me an hour to come from home to the University campus. I save minimum two hours which I can spend on learning on my own. Also I have a very spoiled puppy Labrador which destroyes everything it sees when he is alone and I do what I can to be at home when my parents are at work. On the other hand, I am not motivated and I have troubles with doing homework on time, usually I do it just before the deadline and everytime I speak to myself 'never again' and, of course, I do it again.
ReplyDeleteI'm on e-lerning course now. It's a new thing for me. But I must say, that it meets my expectations.
ReplyDeleteI partly agree with you because you said, that it's for people that are organized and don't left all for the last minute. But I'm a living proof that not organized person can make it through! Of course, I had changed from not organized to partly-organized person and I think that I'm doing OK. :)
In my point of view, a one more advantage is fact, that in classes we practice talking and at home we practice writing. I need to focus when I'm writing in different language, so it's really great for me that I can do it in peace and how long I need.
But there is also one disadvantage. You are spending even more time looking at a computer screen, so your eyesight getting worse. But there is nothing for free, am I right ?
In my opinion there is so much truth in this article. It's not my first time on e-learning course, actually I had a chance to be there last year but it was a little bit different we had the opportunity to see each other only once in two weeks.I have to admit that this form of learning foreign languages is a specially for those kind of people who are organized.Of course you can leave everything at the end but that's not a point of these lessons. What I like the most in such course is that you have to do many different task which concern many topics and you have to do this on your own.You have as much time as you need while in the classroom you can train conversations.I think students who choose to play the language in this way they have some knowledge about English or other language and this is one of the better teaching options for them.
ReplyDeleteAs we know this is more and more popular way to learn English and another languages, it is better when you want to remind gramatic or something like that, do some exercises on your own, but I don't think it is the best way to practise speaking skills and to pronounce correctly.
ReplyDeleteI think tat e-learning method is ood to develop vocabulary and pracice writing skills which is also essential in learning English. That style of learning aim to learners which reach a level of English language and they just want to improve language skills in more convenient way.
