Learn from Finland

Learn from Finland Knowledge is actually the only exportation of Finland. In the seventies, Finland launched serious reforms in the education system. Thanks to that in the international PISA tests (Programme for International Student Assessment) students from Finland took the first place (2000 and 2003) and the second in 2006 and 2009 (in categories of reading and mathematics). Almost 66% of Finnish students go to college - it is the highest percentage in Europe. A university degree is achieved successfully by 93% of students. In this regard Finland is undoubtedly the best in the whole world. Different approach In Finland the most important thing is to preapare children to be able to learn forcibly when they get a little bit older. A child in Finland starts school at the age of 7 and before reaching 16 years it is hardly tested, and the teachers try not to ask homeworks. This way children don't have to worry and stress to much. Moreover, this may help them to choose a hobby

Role of women in different countries

The main purpose of a woman of the past, was to be a "helpmate to her husband." Times have changed. Today, women are considered to have equal rights; but, is it really true?  You would be really slack-jawed reading how far from equality women are in different parts of the world. India           According to Hinduism, the female was created by Brahman to provide company to men and facilitate procreation, progeny and continuation of family lineage. Any respect that women enjoyed in society were as daughters, mothers and wives (till their husbands pass away; as widows they lose their status and suffer from many disabilities ). „Her father protects in childhood, her housband protects in youth, and her sons protect in old age; a woman is never fit for independence.”         On the brighter side, Hindus worship many female deities, as aspects of Mother Goddess.          Nowadays Hindu women have a long way to go to enjoy an equal status with men. They ha

How often do YOU use OTC medications?

We did it again... In 2014 we broke the record and spent over 11.4mld PLN for the OTC medications.  "OTC medications"  means    Over-the-Counter Medications which are pills you can buy without prescription. They're on every corner, almost everywhere. But do you know is it safe to you to buy them?  Mostly common used painkillers are: Aspirin, Paracetamol or Ibuprofen. Average Pole uses 52 of them every year. But I’m sure that not everyone knows about the adverse effects:         ·          Increased risk of having a range of gastrointestinal   problems like diarrhea or nausea. Every year over  7.000 people in the US are hospitalized due to gastrointestinal problems connected with using OTC painkillers.                                         Serious upper gastrointestinal bleeding and gastric ulcers - it’s rare, but very serious case.   Heart failure-  A 2011 study  found that these drugs can

Classical tourists from abroad

Travels... Who among us does not like them? It is said that travels broadens the mind so for some people they are way of life but for most of us they are the ideal way to spend vacation. We especially love arranging abroad trips, Italy or Greece for example are the the directions where people from all over the world gather together so we make contacts with numerous foreigners and observe their behaviour. Generally speaking, each representant of particular country has a scheme of attitudes pigeonholed in our minds. Against this background, there arises something that we people like the most - stereotypes - Of course some of us do not accept this odd social phenomenon, but it must has it's source. Surely most of them is more or less exaggerated but it doesn't affect the fact that stereotypes were, are and will be the thrilling topic of discussion among people from all over the world. Well, what is the behaviour of particular foreigners on holidays? The most intresting proba

A (very) brief history of fast food

Most people living in today's civilised countries enjoy fast food, either openly admitting to it or keeping that enjoyment as a guilty pleasure. Be it McDonalds, KFC or any other type of chain-restaurant, most of them are multi-million dollar franchises recognised by the entire world. Especially popular with the younger crowd, fast food is a testimony of modern lifestyle, but it can also function as a warning. The first restaurants can be traced back all the way to ancient Rome, to the taverns and inns which fed their travelers when they were far away from home. However, it wasn't until the XVIII century that eating out was considered a luxury in Western countries. Fast food joints started off as drive-in restaurants. People would order their food and receive it without getting out from their car. Although this way of serving was a fine example of extreme laziness, the meals were cooked in a normal restaurant kitchen (filled with chefs and trained cooks), so they of
